    informative, but not a standout
It’s a very good, very general home audio book. It’s got a fair amount of audio theory in there, and those parts are written in English, not in Audiospeak. I was hoping there’d be more in it about set-up and technique in digital. There was more analog audio stuff in it than I wanted, but I got what I paid for. It’s an inexpensive book and good for novices, but if you’re aiming for more digital audio recording than analog you might want to consider another tome.

This gift was a big success!
I took a big risk and got my son this book for his 16th birthday – he loves it – he’s told me at least four times how helpful it is! So well done Marc Schonbrun (the author) and well done Amazon for recommending it!

The Perfect Beginner’s Book with Great Explanations
This was exactly what I needed to qualify for a radio station job that employed computerized audio engineering every day. Very well written, but never patronizing to beginners.

Great book for beginners and hobbyists
Getting into home recording can be a bit intimidating, new and confusing terminology, so many different types of equipment, and prices ranging from cheap to outrageous. For the beginner, trying to navigate the maze of concepts, techniques, and purchases alone can lead to frustration on a good day. If this sounds familiar, if recording music at home is something you’ve been thinking about or doing but with little sucess, then Marc Schonbrun’s `The Everything Home Recording Book’ is THE book you need to get you going. It covers just about everything you would need to know to get started, from giving a brief history of the development of recording technology to budgeting your purchases, all the way to marketing your product. Although it doesn’t cover every topic in extreme detail, the scope of the book is so great that getting into every topic covered in detail would make the book voluminous. Pretty much all of the bases are covered – different types of recording equipment, general prices for different pieces of gear, setting up your home studio, recording on different types of equipment like 4 track tape recorders, stand alone digital machines, and on the computer, using effects, mixers, and microphones, interfacing with your computer, getting the best signal possible, using MIDI, editing, mixing, and a host of other topics. His style is clear and engaging, educating but not condescending, and while every question may not be answered, and questions may develop while reading, the book as a whole will educate you to the point that the questions you need to ask a professional will be informed questions. Once you’re through, you’ll have a solid understanding of the process, equipment, and techniques, enabling you to start making the recordings you’ve been wanting to do. If you are new to the world of home recording, or unsatisfied with your knowledge or results, then I recommend strongly that your first purchase be `The Everything Home Recording Book’.

A painless and comprehensive introduction to recording!
I’m actually a studio owner, so this topic is near and dear to me. I have a lot of clients that, inherently, grow interested in the recording process and eventually start to explore recording at home. This book has become my favorite recommendation to give to them to help them get started. Its informative while not being overly technical which means that you won’t intimated like with some of the more “techy” recording books. This is a wonderfully comprehensive look at everything you’ll need to consider to get a handle on making quality home recordings and its make the process easy and enjoyable!Colin Fairbairn,OwnerSisyphus Sound
