Excellent Digital Audio Recorder
This is a great Digital Audio Recorder. The stereo sound quality is Excellent. As described, if you want to connect to a computer and transfer Data Files (music or voice), you need a USB Data cable. Many reviewers have noted that charging only cables that you may have laying around will not transfer Data. As an option, you can simply remove the SD Micro card and plug it into your computer SD card reader. Like the manufacture and several reviewers have said, read the instructions, download the reference manual from the Tascam site, read and understand both. The recorder has many options and it takes a bit to understand the logic and menu process. I have had good success with a source plugged into the 3.5 mm TRS external mic/line jack, WAV 16-bit Stereo 44.1 kHz setting with the record level set at zero. Sound quality is great.

Good sound.
The first one I got had a back ground humming noise and I was deeply disappointed. I returned it and gave it a second chance. The second unit has worked flawlessly for the last couple of months. It took me a bit to figure out how to use it as my microphone for my computer. One I did, everyone commented on how well it sounds. Use it for zoom, teams and Skype calls without issues. Use it both for my Mac and work windows computer.I have not played around with the setting and I am sure I can get better recording. I have to admit that I’m lazy, but some day I will step up my game. I use this unit every day for all my computer calls. I don’t know if they ever intended it for that but it works great. The only thing is to make sure you use a high quality data cable, not one of the cheap charging cables. Some day I will put it on my canon 5D and record video /audio as this unit is intended to do. Until then I happy wit it as my every day conference call microphone. Make sure to buy a small stand for it and a cable long enough so that you can move it closer to you to further help the quality of sound.

Easy digital sound recording with Tascam DR-07X
This small, hand-held device is surprisingly easy to use, though working through the software menus takes a little practice. It has two built-in and adjustable (in terms of direction) microphones for stereophonic sound recording, and can accept two external microphones (our preferred method, with stands). A suitable cable connector (one male pin-type stereo input to the Tascam with two large female mono receptacles for the microphones — order separately) in necessary when using external mics. Insertion of the external microphone pin inactivates the built-in microphones. The only issue seems to be recording volume; the quality of the recorded sound, at least with our relatively inexpensive external microphones, is quite good but the recording volume seems to be limited, with two different but combined methods of controlling volume input, somewhat reducing the subsequent signal-to-noise ratio (i.e., there is some hiss in the quiet parts, which should be absent in digital recordings). The Tascam comes with a set-up manual in multiple languages, but to actually figure out how to use it requires accessing the online user manual on Tascam’s website. Once you’ve practiced this a few times, operation becomes quite easy. Recordings are date- and time-stamped automatically, and must be made with a micro-SD card (not included; we use one of 32GB) inserted into the side of the Tascam. Recordings can be made in .wav or .mp3 formats, but we just use .wav to get the fullest fidelity and, once transferred to a computer, these can be used to make an audio CD. Once transferred to a computer, the music files can be named as you wish, or deleted from the micro-SD card to make room for additional recordings. The Tascam runs on two AA batteries, which are stated to last about 18 hrs. before needing replacement. There is no A/C adapter. Recordings can be edited on the Tascam, though we haven’t tried to do this yet. Recordings are timed during both recording and playback. We had been making music recordings of a Steinway grand piano using a high-quality but aging Dolby C stereo cassette deck, but the Tascam recordings, though lower in volume, are clearer and more realistic, and manipulating the results is much easier.

Beautiful recording
Very versatile and excellent results with recording. Directional microphones helps select what you wish to record. Nice size, weight and handy buttons.

Easy to use.
Well made, easy to use, weighs about the same as a smartphone. Also has a threaded hole on the underside to mount on a tripod or with an adapter, on a mike stand.

Incredible Sound Quality!
I purchased this unit to record audio clips of a piece of construction equipment for a virtual reality program that we are working on. We used it on a tripod in high temeratures and high humidity with no issues at all. We used it for 8 hours straight and the batteries were still fully charged. The VR company we are working with stated that they are some of the highest quality and cleanest audio recordings they have ever been given to work with. I am still amazed at how good they sound. The microphones do pick up everything (and I do mean everything) so I did have to use some audio editing software to pull out just the sounds I needed, but that was quick and easy. I can’t wait to record my band with it next!

I’ve own many Tascams. This one is crap.
The audio is distorted, with screeches and constant pops. I returned it and bought a second one, certain I’d just gotten a defective unit. Something bad happened at the Tascam factory; do not buy.
