Best book marketing book out there
I’ve read a lot of books on how to sell books and become a fulltime author. This is the best one I’ve read so far because:a) Erik is a fiction author who’s done what he teaches, and,b) Erik’s approach is based on real data and a lot of experienceThis book is full of actionable, detailed information, with angles on building an author career I haven’t read anywhere else. Highly recommend.

Excellent
Excellent overview and guide for anybody thinking of self publishing. Very detailed analysis of how to succeed in this very tough business. Bravo, Nick! This book is great.

Comprehensive book marketing!
Erik knows his subject and the book is well-researched and thorough. It’s a bit dry but I am a nerdy person and appreciated his tone and straight forwardness. The book does seem more geared toward fiction writers who have or who plan to write in series. I am neither of those but still gained a lot from the book.

If you want a solid overview of how to market an indie book, this is a fantastic resource. Stuffed full of knowledge and actionable steps, from someone who lives in this world.
Father Ted –
Well-researched, and presented in an easy reading style, but there were occasions when I found myself skipping pages on subjects I’d viewed several times in the past- and the author wasn’t offering anything new.
Andrew Cavanagh –
This book goes into detail on both the basics of good marketing like testing and tracking results, the importance of covers, blurbs, copy etc. This is the kind of information familiar to anyone who has studied direct response marketing of any kind. So mind opening and vital if you’re not already familiar with it.Where this book shines is its details on how the Kindle algorithm rewards different elements like the speed you release books at (the 30/60/90 day cliffs), how to plan out your targeting, promotions and sales for maximum effect and increase your chances that Kindle will show your book over others. There’s a huge amount of solid information in this book from someone who has sold books on Kindle and helped other authors do the same. A must read for authors developing their own book marketing plans.

This third edition of Nicholas Erik’s Ultimate Guide to Book Marketing is excellent. I liked that the focus is on marketing an author’s books plural, and not individual titles. There is an important difference. This is book marketing to build a career as an author. And not necessarily a full-time career. But if you’re planning to write and publish for years, these are the things you want to consider, decide, and establish from the start. Of course your plans can and will change, but when people mutter vaguely about “building your brand”, these are the things that contribute to that. To be blunt, these are the things that give you a greater chance of earning money as an author.
