Short, funny reads
My husband loves trivia, so I bought him this for our trip to Norway since I knew he would need to read at least some of the trip. I thought he would like it because the passages are short (just 2-3 pages or so per story). And it was written in a humorous manner that I thought he would like to pass time since he’s not much of a reader. To my surprise, he read the whole thing almost non-stop until he finished it (and then had nothing to read for the 22 hour trip back home!)

News you never knew
Very entertaining and full of obscure information that is perfect for me to drop into my history storytelling.This week while telling the story of a Civil War woman doctor who was very much into dress reform as well as abolition, suffrage and temperance, I added that dress reform was a safety issue. I had just read in this book that Walt Whitman’s second wife died when a match dropped on her huge bustle and skirt; he could put out the fire because of her metal hoop skirt. Audiences love that sort of wierd stuff and this book is a great resource.

Fun, factual, comprehensive history book
I haven’t read a history book since high school (about 8 years ago). This book was exactly what I was looking for. Comprehensive, sequential, and fun to read. It explained the evolution of the United States all the way up to today’s financial crisis in an understandable and entertaining way. I’m excited to read the history of the world title next.

Good Over View
If you like history and do not like having to weed through many boring history books to get an over view, than you’ll like this book. I would have given it 5 stars if it had more of a comparative approach. Many facts or statistics were only shown from one view point, and it wouldn’t have taken much to include the other side, when talking about the 1950’s and later.

Cute, but not Howard Zinn
The cover gives it away. This book a cute and entertaining history of the United States, but like a fast food, it’s filling, but not that great. It has lots of information, eye candy, charts and graphs, but no references.If you want a genuine, well-documented, serious history of the United States of America, buy Howard Zinn’s “A People’s History of the United States”.
