They were told to leave. They should have listened.
The perfect opportunity…
A manor house available rent-free to house-sitters is an offer too good to miss for Cass and James, who have been saving for a deposit on their own home for so long.
Although it had been abandoned for almost thirty years, after a home invasion left almost all the inhabitants dead, it is an amazing chance for them to build their future.
But is it worth the price?
Shortly after moving in things take a sinister turn. Objects disappear and turn up in odd places, the clock always stops at the same time, the house is strangely oppressive and sometimes it feels like Cass and James are not alone.
Newington House may have bad energy, and a dark reputation. But surely there’s no reason for history to repeat itself, is there?

Couldn’t put this book down
Usually I can figure out where a storyline is going but not in this book. One surprise after another. One of my favorite books and I read a lot.

Suspenseful, eerie, interesting characters. Twists & surprises. ATogether a good read. A bit slow in parts, but it kept me wondering.

You will not be ready for the ending
This was my first read of Louise Jean, and I was not at all disappointed. The beginning is a slow burn, but not monotonous reading. Jenson takes time with character development and deep backstory. The ending however was definitely an OMFG moment.

A Bit Hard to Swallow
Spoilers Ahead!!!The overall plot laid out here in this book was intriguing. I greatly enjoyed the twists and turns, and the magnitude of depravity I kept reading about within the minds of the characters. However, there are SO many holes. For instance, how can a 15 year old raid a house and cause all kinds of destruction, and then cops NEVER search the house? No discovery of the gross hidden room? Say WHAT?Also, how on earth could this filming stuff continue on with no one finding out and no one catching on? This isn’t the biggest town. Hard to believe after the multiple homicides of an entire family? Also, how can a 16 year old with only a knife kill two?Makes no sense. For this reason, I gave it only 3 stars. Too many leaps here in reason.

Jensen has earned title of âFAVORITEâ.
I give all reviews on Goodreads (tialinc), but Louise deserves a praise here as well. This novel was creepy in the best of ways⦠and the twists. Oh man! I held on tight.I always go into this authors books hoping I will figure it all out – I have yet to do that. She keeps me on edge, and she makes it nearly impossible to put down. If you love thrillers and enjoy the chills that come from it, you canât miss reading the work of this author. I picked her first book years ago, Iâve been hooked since!

James J. Cudney IV (Jay) –
terrific character connections
House of horrors, perhaps? The story is told in two time-frames (now and 30 years ago) and from the POV of 3 or 4 characters during the periods. Two very similar families… a father, mother, teenager (from mother’s prior marriage) and a new baby. In the present period, Cassandra and James buy the house where tragedy struck. In the past, we start to see connections and wonder how the two may fit in the with the past. Surely the family facts we’ve learned don’t quite add up, so things went awry at a critical point. I thought the story might be too easy to solve, but then BOOM, it went astronomically higher to an unexpected place. I liked and disliked it, but I found myself breathless at many points. Who were the intruders? Which time period? Which family? How was it all connected? Another winner from Louise Jensen, and I am already eagerly awaiting her 2025 release.

The storyline built up really well with Cass and James who are employed to look after a mansion that is going to be converted into a retreat. Lots of eerie things occur in the house as it was home to a family that were murdered 30 years before. The storyline clips between now and 30 years ago with a young girl called Rose but then the story unfolds and made me feel sick to the stomach. It’s totally worth reading though

I thought I was reading the best book ever. Clever, intriguing and I was totally unable to second guess what was coming next. I found it hard to put it down. But what was that ending about? Totally ruined it for me.

Brilliant book, engrossed from page one, plenty of twists which you don’t expect, first time I have read this author but now a fan.

Hooked early on the book. Lots of twists, but a bit drawn out towards the end. Bit far fetched in places, but I would not want to put people off. It kept me interested.

I’ve read a few novels by Louise Jensen before, but she’s really stepped up a level with The Intruders. She’s an absolutely phenomenal writer and the prologue is one of the creepiest, scariest passages I have ever read. I’ll definitely be looking over my shoulder when I’m alone in the house for the foreseeable future and I love that a writer is able to give me those feelings! The Intruders has several narrators, including Cass, James, Rose and Marina. Louise Jensen has built their personalities and backgrounds really well and I really wanted to know how everyone was connected, particularly as the novel switches expertly between scenes in the past and present. I was absolutely gripped the whole way through and I found it really difficult to put this novel down!Louise Jensen is the most amazing plotter! The plot of The Intruders is very complex and I love how the author weaves all the different strands of it together. There are so many twists and turns that I lost count, and although I guessed some of them, most of them were a complete surprise. I’m usually quite sceptical of novels with a supernatural element, but Louise Jensen pulls this strand of the story off with aplomb – it just adds to how creepy it is!I can’t wait to see what Louise Jensen does next!
