Powerful. The documentary we need to see.
Amazing job by Nate and the crew. I’m blown away The Grab” is an exceptional documentary that stands out for its riveting and timely exploration of global resource exploitation. Directed by Gabriela Cowperthwaite, the film masterfully unravels a complex narrative involving governments, financial investors, and private security forces as they covertly carve up the world’s dwindling food and water supplies. The storytelling is both urgent and impactful, making viewers acutely aware of the hidden machinations that threaten global stability. The film excels in its investigative journalism, presenting a wealth of meticulously researched information and eye-opening footage. The narrative begins with the purchase of Smithfield Foods by a Chinese company, a deal that signaled a significant shift in control over US pork production. From there, it delves into various instances of land grabs across the globe, such as Saudi companies acquiring arid land in Arizona and the involvement of mercenary groups like Blackwater in securing African territories. These stories are woven together to paint a disturbing picture of how climate change and resource scarcity are driving aggressive geopolitical and economic maneuvers.Cowperthwaite’s direction is compelling, and the film’s pace keeps the audience engaged throughout its 104-minute runtime. The use of archival footage, coupled with real-time investigative work, provides a comprehensive and dynamic viewing experience. The film also benefits from its strong narrative structure, which guides the audience through a labyrinth of complex issues without losing clarity or focus.“The Grab” is not just a documentary; it is a crucial piece of investigative journalism that sheds light on the dark underbelly of global politics and economics. It’s a call to action for viewers to recognize and confront the forces that are shaping our world in ways that are often invisible but profoundly consequential. This film is a must-watch for anyone interested in understanding the intersection of resource scarcity, climate change, and global power dynamics.Overall, “The Grab” is a triumph in documentary filmmaking, offering a sobering yet essential perspective on some of the most pressing issues of our time. It’s a testament to the power of journalism and the importance of staying informed about the forces that shape our world.

    Really Excellent Five Stars Movie
This movie did a great job of raising awareness of the issue of water shortage in various places and how little attention is being paid to rational distribution… Just because a large commercial farm CAN pump lots of water to make hay for horses in Saudi Arabia (and lobby legislators$$$), doesn’t mean we should allow that at the expense of smaller family farms (with smaller shallower wells) who then struggle to help feed us, here in America. And the connection to big companies making profits that make the retirement funds of politicians look like they are going $$$ up… While the farmers here who feed us are struggling in the face of large farms taking water and shipping food for animals in foreign countries. Well worth watching!!!

    Over-Hyped
What land purchases there are completed by Western nations in Africa seem driven more by greed than apocalyptic concerns.
