RANKIN BASS COMPLETE COLLECTION BLU RAY IS A KEEPER; WELL WORTH THE UPGRADE!
With the Holiday season upon us once again a new Rankin Bass collection has been released. This year’s offering is a complete collection of all of the Rankin Bass Christmas themed specials. All 18 original Specials on 5 discs in a nice compact case with slipcover. The case is a hinged type case so there is no awkward stacking of discs. I never bothered buying any of these specials on Blu Ray before this set as I felt my DVD versions were on par with the first release of Blu Rays. I can say that this set is a worthy upgrade and all of the Specials featured look very good on Blu Ray.I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of these specials. Naturally Rudolph got the most attention being the crown jewel of the lot and the one that put Rankin Bass on the map.The Little Drummer Boy and Frosty’s Winter Wonderland are the weakest in terms of dirt, scratches etc, but they do not look bad by any stretch. The Little Drummer Boy is a low lighted special so I assume it was hard to brighten it too much without ruining the integrity of the original design. Frosty’s Winter Wonderland has some dirt here and there, but both of these specials look better than they’ve ever looked before and should not disappoint. Bonus material I believe were carried over from past releases and can be found on the first few discs..The specials are arranged in chronological order, so that may answer some other reviewers questions why the sequels weren’t arranged on the disc featuring their original counter parts. There is a play all feature on each disc, but no matter what special you choose the disc will play the following specials in order there after. This is easily remedied by pressing menu and picking the particular special you want to see. It’s not a big deal as I very rarely watch more than two or three at a time and I will watch certain specials more often that others.The thick cardboard slipcover is sturdy and attractive. Considering many of these specials were not available on factory pressed discs; this set is a no-brainer and should not be passed up. The only thing that could be better is if it were a complete set of all of the Rankin Bass productions including many that haven’t seen an official Home Video release.Maybe we will see another set featuring the remaining Specials, TV shows and Films from the unique team of Rankin Bass who were so much a part of many of our childhoods. It’s hard to imagine Christmas without at least a few of these timeless specials and this set is keeper for sure.

A great collection of the Rankin Bass Christmas Classics.
I have been looking to get the Rankin Bass Christmas specials on Blu-Ray for a long time. Now that this collection came out with the complete library of specials, I knew I had to get it. Was not disappointed.I’ve enjoyed all of these specials since my childhood. I remember when a number of these were brand new. It was like there was a Golden Age from the 60’s to the 80’s when Rankin and Bass would release a Christmas special almost every year. Some were Stop-Motion “Animagic”, others were traditional cell animation. Some were religious, others more commercial. Some had lots of staying power and were re-released every year. Others were somewhat forgotten and only released intermittently. All, however, are thoroughly enjoyable and great to watch at Christmas time.I will say something about the packaging. This particular package is a grouping of previously released Blu-Ray discs from other production companies. The first two discs (Rudolph, Cricket on the Hearth, Drummer Boy, Frosty and Santa Claus is Coming to Town) are produced by Universal Studios. The remaining discs are all Warner Brothers releases. That means that if you ever bought these specials on an earlier Blu-Ray release, this package will just be a reissue of the same discs you may already have. If you’re like me and were waiting for a complete package, this will be for you. If you already have some or all of these on Blu-Ray from an earlier release, this package will not have anything new for you.All that aside, this is a really great package of Christmas specials to have. The presentations are all sharp and clear and there are a number of special features to enjoy regarding the making of these specials. Highly recommended for collectors and families looking for great Christmas entertainment.

Product is as described. After many problems with Post Office delivery, I finally got it. Amazon staff have been great and very understanding. Please be aware that you MUST have a DVD player that can play region 1 DVDs or a PC with a DVD player in order to play these.
