”I have gone through a number of books like this one, and most of them are pretty much the same. This is the one you want… Personally, I will check out any book this author writes about apps because, for some reason, maybe a bad case of OCD, he is obviously compelled to do the most thorough investigation into each and every aspect, good and bad of apps in a particular genre. My hat’s off to him, and he has my thanks for saving me a ton of time and grief.” – Linda Abbott (Reviewer)

Great reference book for your Kindle Fire
I like this book because the author has done all the work for me. And has tried out the apps so I don’t have deal with anything that might not work properly

21 Categories of Apps. Much More Than Games. Well Organized
I spent the better part of last night reading about Free Kindle Fire Apps, and then looked at about 20 of the ones I thought would interest me. I expected this to be heavily into gaming, and contrary to other reviews, I was wrong. I’ve had my KF for over a year, and I’m a little worn out on games and, in fact, apps in general. An app really has to be special to remain on my Kindle. I didn’t find many listed in this book, but that shouldn’t dissuade anyone from getting it. There are worthwhile apps written about, and the book is organized well. The Sections or Chapters are:Game Apps (then broken down into arcade, mind, etc.)Kid Apps (sorry, I skipped over these)Productivity Apps such as art, calendar, cooking, etc. (I still haven’t found a calendar that’s worthwhile.)Health and Fitness Apps (no thank you)Job Apps (I’m semi-retired thank heavens)Languages Apps (found two)Local AppsMath Apps (where were these when I was in high school?)Messaging Apps (I don’t message: I email while I still have 10 fingers)Movie Apps (Some interesting apps here though I’m still waiting for them on HBO or Starz – which means another two years)Music AppsNews (USA Today is a winner)ReadingReference (All you really need is the Wiki App)ScienceSecuritySocial Networking (I’m anti-social, but don’t let that stop you)System Maintenance and Tools (which you could get from reading the text that comes with your Kindle)TimeWiFi (Two Useful Apps, but my favorite is still amped|wireless by Wi-Fi Analytics)Writingand then some suggestions. Not even considering the price (nothing), this is worthwhile. However, before you start downloading apps just because they’re free, keep in mind memory that apps use, and the time it takes to get the app and then get rid of it if it’s as useless as “The Heart.” I could have given 5 stars, but found some of this “tedious.” It could just be that I find most apps not engaging, and after 14 months, I have only 29 apps and three of those, I can’t delete because they’re standard Amazon apps. Of course, I like THE Amazon app which gets me here so quickly…eaw

Handy reference
Makes a handy reference for a cross section of applications. Many of the applications can be found individually , but this make a quick lookup easier by category.

I Think it covers the subject well
I would say it gives enough info that will give the reader a basis to decide if a certain APP is for them. I thought the info on games at least provided with data to conclude if it was fun or frustration. Is it a game that has some problems and is it a wok in progress and they are fixing problems and adding more content.I thought the overall approach used was odd at first but I soon realized he had a viable format for the different type apps. I am used to reading Amazon product reviews on a type of product. I also read review’s on music, or audio gear all from trade magazines. I will then read customer reviews on Amazon or other sites. This covers many types of apps.

This is good and thorough, for what he covered
The author obviously was thorough and analytical from the start, based on his rating system. He did a lot of work in analyzing and evaluating all these apps, and he deserves to be proud of his work. I am interested in practical, efficient applications; I don’t think I saw any office suite-type applications, for example, and I’m sure there are a few of them around. Also, I think that games have no place on an electronic device; I know I’m in a very small minority. Games take up roughly half the space in this book. I am guessing there is more out there than this book talks about, but I give the author full credit for his work.

Not what I expected
When I bought this book I expected free apps in different categories but was very disappointed!the entire book was games and another category which I was not interested in. For me this was a waste of money!!!

Great book to get you started with some great apps
Not only was this book chalked full of free apps (800 of them), the detailed description of each app was very helpful. After reading the description of the app, I immediately knew if it was something I wanted to try. I did a lot of research on free apps on various internet sites, and most apps that were recommended are the same apps in this book. It will save you a lot of time looking for good free apps if you just buy this book. Highly recommended for someone who is fairly new to the Kindle tablet.

Not very helpful
OK, what do you have to lose by getting this app? I’m a ‘kindle fire HDX’ newbie and I was looking for a shortcut to finding the best apps. Well this didn’t do the trick. Some don’t work well – or at all – with the HDX. So what I have to lose is ‘time’, the very thing this book was supposed to save. It is some value so I didn’t give it 1 star!By the way, I hope more and better apps are being developed for the HDX, because my HDX doesn’t give me the flexibility of using all Android apps, much less the skizillions of neat apps available for the iPad. However, it sure does make it easy to buy stuff on Amazon (Ya think!)
Linda Quotes –
The author has spent a lot of time collating, and reviewing so many apps. It isn’t his fault if they aren’t available in the UK, that is an issue for Amazon. A lot of the apps sound glitchy, so I think I’ll wait a while for functionality to improve. My Fire HD struggles to download books, so I’m not expecting too much just yet!

Kindle fire which I don’t have so not a long of good to me, should not really have downloaded it to the kindle I have got, but ya never know
Mr. RP VAIN –
I bought this book believing I would have access to free apps, but although many were described as being free, whenever I tried to download them Amazon’s website refused to let me do so, claiming that geographical restraints made it impossible. Why are these apps available free to USA users, but not those in the UK????
David R. Jamieson –
It it quite a good publication but all suggested apps are unavailable due to the “geographical area” being USA and therefore not available to UK Fire owners. Bit of a bummer really
Billofengland –
didn’t learn a thing, best avoided.
