The Immediacy of AI in Higher Education
AI and its role in higher education is coming at us very, very quickly. This book is an attempt to bring us up to speed not in the near future, because that would be too late, but to do it now. If you are teaching in higher education and you feel overwhelmed by the impact of AI in our discipline and in your teaching, this is an excellent book to help you learn and to learn quickly.

Useful
Good overview of AI and how it works. I particularly liked the explanation of prompt engineering. I find that useful. Why not 5 stars? I am not sure itâs as insightful or analytical as it could be but maybe that was not the authorsâ purpose. Worth reading through as an educator dealing with AI in the college classroom.

Great intro for teachers
Given the speed of innovation on the AI and LLM space, I don’t expect this book to have a long shelf life. However, for those of us on the leading edge of this technology and grappling with how our we and our studentsâ can use and should use it ethically, it is indeed timely and useful. The authors not only walk through the technical aspects and how-to for potentially using these new tools, but also offer commentary and suggestions and on policies and practices for use in the academic environment. The book is well written, thoughtful, and engaging.

If you are a teacher/professor, must read this
The authors provide current examples of AI use and misuse among students, and review ways to take advantage of this soon-to-be pervasive technology. Today we are in the adolescence of AI, and it will eventually transform all education from pre-school through graduate school. And we don’t know what the unintended consequences will be. But the authors give you plenty to think about, even if you don’t agree with all their predictions and suggestions.

Good, practical advice
This book offers some good, practical advice for teachers and professors on how to teach in light of AI. I was happily surprised at how much I liked this book, and at the concrete ideas that I can use in my classes.
