Helpful hint and opinions from an electrical engineer
Hint:1. Unplug the USB cable before attempting to play audio file. It won’t play if the cable is attached.2. I was able to get 117 kbps, 128 kbps and 320 kbps (default file) to play. Other rates will probably work but I didn’t try any others.I am a retired electrical engineer and needed a small module to play a small MP3 file. This module package seemed reasonably priced for what you get. The actual circuit board, switch and speaker were wrapped in pink anti-static bubble wrap. This was placed in a standard plastic zippered bag along with a battery case and USB cable. For ESD purposes it seemed adequate, but not great. My opinion is that the overall quality of this module package is very good. The circuit board was made using modern surface mount and machine soldering. The only thing that was a hand operation is the attachment of wires for the external pieces which is a normal process. Hot melt glue is used to reinforce the external connections, which is a nice precautionary measure taken for enhanced reliability. The switch and USB cable are way better than I expected. The switch is large and has a nice tactile feel as it snaps through center. The USB cable felt very secure when it was plugged into the circuit board. The best part of all this is that it actually worked on the first try! Attach the battery pack and be sure that both the pack and circuit board have their switches turned on. Press the button and the default song plays…….yeah. Plug in the USB cable and on Windows 10 – 64 bit home edition a new drive appeared in the File Explorer. Be sure to delete the default file and copy the desired file in its place. Be sure to unplug the USB cable before pressing the switch. That’s all there is to it. I haven’t tried triggering it with an external signal yet but will try later. The speaker has absolutely no bass, as would be expected for such a small speaker in no cabinet. I bet it would sound much better if it were placed in a small sealed box. Or, tap off the speaker signal and feed it into an external amp and use some decent speakers. That’s my plan. You don’t need to be an electrical engineer to use this.

    Perfect for my music boxes.
I use these sound modules in my wooden music box. There easy to modify, easy to install any song on them. The instructions are simple. The volume control is a little hard to adjust. All in all it works very good. I just wished I the company would give me a bulk price on them.

    Decent Product
Setting up the product is a little interesting, but it worked. You have to reformat it if it does not work the first time. You need a small screwdriver to change the volume but that’s alright. The sound quality is pretty much what I would expect a speaker that size to have. Overall, it works well, has decent volume, and is fairly simple to use.

Very easily converted to USB power. Ideal for my application.
Most of the sound modules currently sold have battery holders on the PCB (printed circuit board). I wanted a sound module that could be powered by a USB connection. At this scale, identifying and bypassing the tracings while not ruining the unit would be a challenge. With this WayinTop module, all you need to do is take a surplus USB plug, identify the two power pads (USB cables have both power and data circuits. In a basic USB A plug, the power pads are the two outside ones) and the wires connected to them (If in doubt, a simple continuity test with a multimeter will confirm), then splice and solder those to the battery leads. It sounds more complicated than it is. The sound quality is not great. It’s better than one of those annoying greeting cards and about equal to a lot of toys. It could not be simpler to upload sounds. If you’re able to do a little desoldering and swapping of subminiature components, there are a number of playback options as shown in the chart image, above.

Makes a sound, not very loud.
I bought this to add sound-clip to a stuffed doll. The sound-clip chip operation is flawless and the amplifier on the board is powerful. The 1″ speaker that comes with this kit is VERY quiet and can barely be heard inside a doll.I replaced this speaker with a 2″ 8 Ohm model in a small box and the sound output was GREAT.

    Exactly as described.
Connect battery, connect to usb port with enclosed cable (sound module appears as a USB drive to windows), copy an mp3 file to the new “drive”, disconnect USB cable, press button attached to sound module to playback the mp3 file through the enclosed speaker. You can also substitute power source and speaker. Simple, effective, affordable. I love it.

50/50 on if yours works or not
I ordered one of these and it didn’t work at all. Connected the power pack and put the board and battery in the on position. Press the button andddd… nothing. Tested the power pack with an led and its working. Ordered a second and same exact issue. This board won’t power on and work at all. It willing to try again and the company only offered me a 5.00 refund on a 15.00 product. Thankfully within my Amazon return period. If your going to try your luck better buy in bulk to filter out the duds
