The acclaimed light-hearted murder-mystery series returns, along with its eponymous Vespa-driving, crime-solving Catholic nun. It’s the 1960s and Sister Boniface, with her aptitude for detective work, is an invaluable asset to the Great Slaughter Police Department. Her faith in forensics is only rivalled by her passion for investigation. If there’s evidence to be found, Boniface will find it. In this series, the sister forces a murderer into checkmate at a chess tournament, takes a spin at a pirate radio station, confronts a coven of witches and defends her own reputation as the conviction of her greatest adversary, ‘The Good Samaritan’, comes into question.

Entertaining, a nun as a forensic expert for the police.
The second season is as entertaining as the first. The idea of a nun as the forensic expert for the police in the small English village of Great Slaughter, where murder is as frequent as in St Mary-Mead, is novel, and actually works. All the typical quirky small village characters are there.

Sister Boniface Mysteries: Season Two Does NOT Disappoint
To be honest, I own every ‘Father Brown’ DVD available, including the most recent Series 11. I had seen the ‘Sister Boniface Mysteries’ advertised on another website – whose name shall remain anonymous. Since the local PBS station did not air this spin-off, I did not know how good the series was. Much to my surprise, the ‘Sister Boniface Mysteries’ program is a wonderful 10-episode television series made in collaboration between the BBC and the streaming service BritBox. For those who like British actors and enjoy the countryside of England, you will NOT be disappointed when purchasing this 2-disc DVD collection (Season 2). The ensemble cast is stellar, and the storylines are nicely presented. Definitely worth your time and money, and a very good addition to anyone’s DVD library. I look forward to purchasing the 3rd season when it becomes available on August 13, 2024.

Fun, lighthearted series that the English are masters at.
Imagine a nun who can solve mysteries by being brilliant at science.

A very “light” mystery series
Acting was consistent and good. Obviously no nudity or bad language. This has a lighter feel than many British mysteries. Plots are not complex. Often the characters are “whacky” and the stories rather “corny”. Many attempts at humor. Delivery of lines is actually well done. Some blood but little violence. Not my “cup of tea” when looking for a mystery series but many may enjoy.

Enjoyable British Detective Show
I love the British detective and mystery shows more than American TV shows. Bought both Volumes 1 and 2 of Sister Boniface and binged watched. There is seriousness and laughter in the episodes, when Sister Boniface (Lorna Watson) imagines herself in different scenarios, and it was in one where she imagines herself like a Boudica warrior and that is when I recall that she had to be one of the actresses in another British show, “Horrible Histories”. As the series progresses, the viewer learns more and more about her before she took Holy orders, working in the gov’t area, a German translator during the war, an excellent chess player, holds a PhD in forensic sciences, her father is an Emeritus professor, and her mother a musician. I am hoping there will be more episodes, as well as including her more in the “Father Brown” series.

Set in the 60’s and very well done. The attitudes, the costumes, political climate, musical culture are all very 60’s. But the true reasons for the crimes span centuries – greed, lust, power, love. Episodes are well played with humor and finesse by truly fun characters. I wish there was a season 3.
