After the death of their father, sisters Elinor and Marianne Dashwood face financial ruin. At the mercy of their half brother, John, and his greedy wife, their only hope is to make a good match. But reduced circumstances make courtship difficult—especially after being turned out of their home. While responsible Elinor takes a practical approach to matters of the heart, Marianne throws herself in unreservedly.

In Jane Austen’s first novel, two of literature’s most iconic characters discover that love demands a balance of passion and pragmatism.

    Beautiful
This is the most beautiful book in this series that I’ve seen. I wish that pride and prejudice were also offered in this series cause it’s absolutely beautiful. I recommend to buy. I’ve read it through already and it’s amazing. It’s a beautiful book.

    Penguin Classics Deluxe Edition
This review is for the Penguin Classic Deluxe Edition. I’m not going to review the author or the text of the novel itself – there are about two centuries worth of those online.I hate how the Amazon review system lumps together reviews from different editions of the same work. As someone who frequently reads “classics,” I often buy books, not for the content of the original, but for the particular translation (in the case of non-English works) or for the physical quality of the edition (as is the case here).I am absolutely in love with what Penguin has done. Their entire deluxe series of books is fantastic, and the Jane Austen novels are no exception. If you tend to prefer paperback books – like me – then I don’t believe there is a better series available. The cover art is always beautiful, the paper is thick, the rough cut edges are just plain awesome (though sometimes a little annoying when turning pages), and the print is crisp, clear, and decently sized. All of the books are the same height/width and line up nicely on a bookshelf – an indication of the time and thought Penguin has put into these editions. They are simply fun to pick up and read, and it’s obvious from the build-quality that they’ll last for a long time.If you’re a student or on a budget, go for a cheaper option; these seem to go for approximately twice the price of most other paperbacks. Or, you could always get the original text for free at Project Gutenberg. However, if you want something that’s going to stay on your shelf for a while (and possibly weather many readings) then go for these. As of this review, I’m pretty sure they only have four of Austen’s books out (P&P, Persuasion, Emma, and S&S), but I’m picking up the rest as they’re released.

Austen wisdom, wit and sarcasm with endearing strong female characters
About version C. E. Brock- excellent digital copy, working pages and chapter links and no noticed typos or errors. Got it for 99 cents so excellent buy.About the novel:I’ve completed 3 Austen novels now bye order of my favorite stories through film and TV adaptations. Each has its charm but P&P is still my favorite and S&S now ranks third above Emma.I find the dynamics of the sisters Elinor and Marianne most intriguing and endearing. Their mom and baby sister being more ornamental it’s difficult to get a feel for them.Perhaps I see some of my relationship with my siblings here but this novel really speaks to me. I can even relate to the brother and sister in law.Spoilers……………………………The sisters contrast more than Jane and Lizzy though we don’t really get a Jane POV so it’s not a fair comparison. Both have their own unique ways of navigating their world. Elinor all shy, reserved and carefully concealed emotion makes her stronger of the two especially in a society that doesn’t reward passionate outbreaks. I felt bad for Marianne but also frustrated with her mom who failed to chaperone properly or even get her own head on straight and not encourage Willoughby without an idea of his intentions. A dad with some standards, and alive, would have stood some protection for these girls. Elinor is mislead too but I see that she did her best to remain detached and have no expectations though her hurt wasn’t any less when “that hussy” (LOL Mrs. Jennings) stuck her claws into Elinor.I wish I had read these books as a young teenager. Women haven’t changed a whole lot (ans lying men too) and some of the double crossing and betrayals I suffered might have been avoided learning from these characters and Austen wisdom. Her sarcasm is ever present as well. And overall it’s an enjoyable read. It flowed better and faster than Emma which seemed to get hung up in places reminding me of Miss Bates rambling on and losing her point.Willoughby is definitely a Scoundrel up there with Wickham. He is all about and only for himself and even as he tries to “apologize” to Elinor in one seen he never really does. He just had a minor twinge of conscience when he heard Marianne was possibly dying and had to insert himself into the drama of wronged star crossed lovers. He never meant to hurt her, but he never meant to marry her even though he gave her every expectation offering her expensive presents (horse Queen Mab) and showing her his would be future estate. No he is just like some guys today wowing the girl d’jour with his richest, having fun bathing in her admiration and his conquest of her (same as that unfortunate ward of Brandon’s) and poof he’s gone to hunt elsewhere.People never change and Austen can teach us the way of the world and entertain as well.

Excelente ejemplar de la obra. Pastas y hojas hermosamente decoradas.

This is a very nice little volume, easy to hold or to carry around, pretty with dust jacket or without, a good font in a good size, practical bookmark. I’ve never watched the film, have an idea of what it’s about and am currently enjoying Austen’s witty and precise descriptions. It is much more entertaining and pleasant to read than I expected.
