In their simplest form, podcasts are relatively easy to create. They’re nothing more than audio files distributed on the internet for others to enjoy. However, creating QUALITY podcasts is both challenging and time consuming. Despite their best intentions, most podcasters fail to make it past 12 episodes. Let Podcast Pillars show you how to create a quality podcast that stands the test of time.
Podcast Pillars demonstrates the importance of:
Setting reasonable expectations
Taking the podcasting plunge TODAY
Picking a niche topic
Creating an environment that’s conducive to recording
Designing captivating cover art
Scripting
Writing thorough episode descriptions
Discovering where your audience hangs out
Participating in podcasting communities
Podcast Pillars is different from other podcasting books.
Podcast Pillars takes a very real and honest look at what it takes to produces top-notch content. It doesn’t hide the fact that podcasting is labor intensive. Despite what you may have already read, podcasting isn’t for everyone. However, if you approach podcasting with a single goal in mind (producing outstanding content) and you operate within a proven framework (Podcast Pillars), your podcast will rise above the rest.
Here’s what experienced podcasters are saying about Podcast Pillars:
“I like the fact that (Podcast Pillars) reminds us that podcasting is a chance to be heard, and while the promise of making quick money may not happen, we can make a quality podcast with a minimum of effort. (The author) is honest about what that effort is and that is worth the price of admission by itself.”
– Jack Wengrosky; Host of ‘Nuff Said, SMG Blacklist and Trumpet Talk podcasts.
“Podcast Pillars has a lively, informal style which gives it instant appeal. (The author) backs that up with a wealth of detail grouped under his 15 Pillars.”
– Bill Byrne; Host of the Civil War Board Games podcast.
“Podcast Pillars is a great handbook to help launch your podcast whether it’s your first show or you have been podcasting for years.”
– Tom Dorsey; Co-founder of Atomic Rocket Studios.

Great read for the new and experinced podcaster!
Full disclosure, I have partnered with Adam Duncan on many ventures including hosting podcasts. This book is a helpful guide to creating a podcast. If you have been thinking about starting a podcast you will want this book to help light a fire and start producing a show you can be proud of. Even if you have experience you will still pickup something new, I’m one of those people. This is not one of those “how-to” books that eventually feel like a long sales pitch. Adam went through all of the pain of self-driven research and the experience of both success and failure to be able to write this book.

Solid information, but not a stand-alone resource
Good solid information. Although the book is a little short on details (especially in the audio editing department), the author notes that the book is not a how-to guide for making a podcast, but rather more of an inspirational platform to help you get to where you’ll explore the ins and outs of podcasting on your own. I like that Duncan doesn’t make money the overall metric for determining the success of a podcast, and he emphasizes the longer time commitment it takes to produce a quality podcast which stands out from the rest. The lack of five stars is only because of how short the book is–the author’s tone is very positive and encouraging, but the book could have used a little more content to fill out the chapters. Still a good read and contains basic (but certainly not exhaustive) information for anyone who is thinking about starting a podcast.
