“Narrator Susan Ericksen’s performance vibrates with energy, as she portrays old and new characters in this series.”—AudioFile on Desperation in Death, an Earphones Award winner.
Homicide Detective Eve Dallas hunts a killer who turns a wedding party into a murder scene in the next novel by the #1 New York Times bestselling author, J.D. Robb, Passions in Death.
On a hot August night, Lt. Eve Dallas and her husband, Roarke, speed through the streets of Manhattan to the Down and Dirty club, where a joyful, boisterous pre-wedding girls’ night out has turned into a murder scene. One of the brides lies in a pool of blood, garroted in a private room where she was preparing a surprise for her fiancée—two scrimped and saved-for tickets to Hawaii.
Despite the dozens of people present, useful witnesses are hard to come by. It all brings back some bad memories for Eve who once suffered an assault in the very same room—but she’d been able to fight back and survive. She’d gotten justice. And now she needs to provide some for poor young Erin.
Eve knows that the level of violence and the apparent premeditation involved suggest a volatile mix of hidden, heated passion and ice-cold calculation. This is a crime that can be countered only by hard detective work and relentless dedication—and Eve will not stop until she finds the killer who destroyed this couple’s dreams before the honeymoon even began….
A Macmillan Audio production from St. Martin’s Press.

Another Great Murder Mystery
Another winning murder mystery from J D Robb. I must admit at first I thought the story was complicated and was dragging. Her books have never been that way so I was surprised. However, on reflection, every character was important to the plot and the book was outstanding. Every time I review her writing I comment on how powerful her scene descriptions are. So much so you can feel the wind, smell the flowers, feel the pain, visualize the cat and know Summerset! Her relationship with Roark the kind all women crave and the love scenes are sweet without the heaviness of erotica. Well done!

Pure In Death
This was such a pure, simple, satisfying In Death book. Nothing overly horrific, nothing heavily complicated, just Eve, Roarke, Peabody and Gallahad doing what they do. I thoroughly enjoyed it. I love this entire series and have since the first book many years ago. Well done Nora! ð

Slow
I’ve read them all and yes, some are better than others. This one…not so good. However, the characters we love move forward in their lives and I will definitely get #60. I need Eve to kick some ass! Love when she tangles with the bad guys!!!!

Very good story
If you’re familiar with this series, you’ll know there are stories where Eve Dallas figures out who the murderer is long before anyone else does. And there are stories where one murder leads to a second and a third, and maybe even a fourth, and the pattern reveals the criminal. And there are stories where landmarks blow up, or life-changing events happen in major characters’ lives, or you see some of the story through the eyes of the perpetrator. This is not any of those stories. This is a straight police procedural, where it takes a long time, and a great deal of careful detective work, to identify the person who committed one (and only one) murder, and that case is the central focus of the book. And it works very well.I wouldn’t want every story in the In Death series to be like this one. I enjoy the variety of stories JD Robb gives us, and I hope we get to see more about the lives of the many beloved supporting characters in the next book and the ones after that. But this time, it was great to see a straightforward story about some excellent detective work.

In Death
As always, perfection. Great Plot, in-depth character creation, great hooks, and I cannot wait until the next In Death comes out.

Eve does it again
Eve Dallas, homicide cop in a future new york, goes after criminals with everything she is, has, I never will be. This series is hard edged, yet sweet and funny in a lot of ways. The relationships are really beautiful to see grow. The criminals are truly cruel or hapless or idiotic or evil as the case may be, and Eve goes after them all. She truly speaks for the dead. If you haven’t read these novels before, start with the first one. I guarantee you won’t want it any other way. I will definitely read the next book in this series.

Very Satisfying
Another engaging submission from In Death & LT Eve Dallas & gang!It was good to have the D&D with Crack back on the page. The story/murder is not the usual, which Eve denotes throughout! I love trying to guess – who dunnit & I usually do ð¤& this was no different, got it before Eve – yet for the same reason ðThose of us who’ve been reading (& loving) these books do not need my recommendation, yet for those who haven’t – you need to start at the beginning to actually begin! This book is a tad bit slower & the case is as infuriating as LT Dallas continually states, as well as the reasoning behind annoying, yet #59 does not disappoint â¤

good but not great
I agree with other reviewers that this latest effort was good but not as good enough to make it to 5 stars. Slow story development seemed off for this writer. Got more intriguing at about 70% of my reading and seemed to comeback more to what I expected.

Acho que fiquei mal acostumada. Quando o livro é somente bom, me decepciona. Mas os momentos dela com Roarke foram bonitos.

Had some twists to the story that kept you guessing who the killer was almost to the end. I would recommend this book to all my friends and family to read. I have read all of the Death Series so far and love the characters in the books, especially Dallas, Roarke, Peabody.

This is the newest in the in Death serie about Eve Dallas and again a very nice read, can’t wait for the next.

Book 59 and still just as good as the very first. Iâve read all the others many times, and this wonât be the last time I read this one. I love her stories, the pacing, the characters. Absolutely fantastic. You wonât be disappointed!

It’s a slow paced book. Not much role for Roarke, Feeny, etc. Have come to expect more thrill from Eve and JD Robb.
