From the best-selling author of The Secrets of Us and The Best of Friends comes a novella of deceit, desperation, and how one little mistake can unravel a life.
When overwhelmed stay-at-home mom Alexis finds herself at odds with her husband after she’s charged with a DUI, she is given one chance to get her family back: complete AA and admit her faults. The problem is, she’s never had a drinking problem and has no idea what caused the blackout that led to her arrest. Still, she’s committed to working through the program, if that’s what it takes to be reunited with her two young children. But when she connects with a new friend, Farrah – a confident, successful powerhouse of a woman Alexis can’t help but idolize – she’s empowered to take a closer look at her husband’s role in her downfall. What she finds shocks her to her core, quickly spiraling into something more sinister than she ever imagined.

Tight narrative that slowly unravels the lives of its characters
I found Lucinda Berry’s ‘One Little Mistake’ to be a captivating novella that explores complex themes of guilt and deception. The story unfolds with a tight narrative that keeps you on edge, slowly unraveling the lives of its characters in a way that feels both intimate and suspenseful. Berry’s writing style is crisp and evocative, drawing you into the emotional turmoil of the protagonist as she grapples with the consequences of a single moment. While the novella’s brevity limits some character depth, Berry skillfully creates a tense atmosphere that grips you until the final moments. Overall, ‘One Little Mistake’ is a compelling listen on Audible, offering a poignant exploration of human frailty and the repercussions of secrets.

It was just good
Iâll always listen to anything Brittany Pressley Narrates. I did love The Perfect Child by this author so it was a must listen. Especially being 2 hours and 23 min. The book was good. The ending was fine. I wanted something more twisty at the end. It didnât satisfy me like an Alice Feeney ending would. But Iâd definitely recommend listening for a palate cleanser.

Narrator brings characters to life!
I loved the narration! Brittany Pressley ability to change her voice to bring each character to life is what kept me listening. The wifeâs hysterics, the husbands icy cool tone gaslighting her, the whiney preschool teacher, and the crazy revengeful friend. Great story!

Hmm…
Though this story was somewhat predictable, I enjoyed it. Alexis was intollerable at moments but it all comes out justified. EFF the people in her life, they’re awful. I’ll be looking into more from this author!

A great listen!
One little mistake is all it takes for your life to be turned upside down and shattered into a million pieces. That’s what what happened to Alexis one night when she wakes up in a holding cell, not recalling how she got there or what she even did to wind up in jail. Her husband is so appalled by her actions, he refuses to help her. He takes their two small children and is prepared to go to court, so she never sees them again. Desperate, she meet Farrah at an AA meeting, and they quickly become friends. Can she be trusted or does she have her motives? and what about Alexis’ husband Jared? Why is he being so cruel to her? Hasn’t he ever made a mistake? This audio novella is short, but gripping, and has you wanting to listen just to find out what happens. This was GREAT…until the very end. It was such a build up, just to have a let down in the last 12 mins.Otherwise, it was a fantastic listen!âï¸âï¸âï¸âï¸

Secrets destroy lives
Alexis is struggling to hold it together as a stay-at-home mom. She just needs a break sometimes. She remembers having a couple glasses of wine and then being taken to jail. Her memory is gone and her husband refuses to talk to her. The kids are with him. Sheâs willing to do anything to get back her children. Eventhough, sheâs not an alcoholic she chooses to attend AA meetings.â¦Itâs a short quick read with an interesting twist. Iâm always a skeptic when it comes to accusing people of having mental breakdowns or being a danger to themselves or others. These types of storylines are so cliche. I appreciated the the twist Lucinda Berry threw in there to make it more interesting.

The best narrator Iâve heard!
– Audiobook. I listened to this while driving to and from work – Great story and I LOVED the narrator! It fell a little short due to the ending, which left too many holes for me. But definitely a gripping tale that kept my attention throughout.

Huge fan
I really liked this novella. I don’t usually listen to audio books but my reading has been limited lately, so thought I’d give it a shot. And what better way to do that then by listening to one of my favourite authors? AND it’s an audible original too, which is even cooler.Alexis is having a hard time of it. She has a young daughter and just gave birth to a son a few months ago. Her husband is no help at all. Which let me tell you, was highly infuriating to read.Unfortunately for Alexis, she decides to have a glass of wine one day, a little earlier than normal for her, and the next thing she knows, she’s waking up in the drunk tank. Buuut after only having a couple glasses, maybe only 2, she doesn’t remember anything at all. Even though she’s a light weight when it comes to alcohol, she knows that there is no way that she could have blacked out.The one twist in this book wasn’t overly surprising but the 2nd one, yeah, I couldn’t predict it at all.It just shows that there are a lot of people out there who take advantage when someone is down on their luck. And poor Alexis fell victim to it.The book, although short, was a fun afternoon listen. It was entertaining and I can’t wait for more. Also, as with most novellas, I do wish this one was longer but that’s just me.This is my first audiobook review and I really liked the narrator. She did a fantastic job and coming from someone who is only starting to get into audiobooks, she held my interest and I wasn’t bored.
