The number one best-selling series that Audible listeners call “wonderfully entertaining”, “packed with humor, geek references and thought-provoking storylines”, and performed by “a true master story teller and actor” returns as the Bobs face their deadliest challenge yet.
The Bobiverse is a different place in the aftermath of the Starfleet War, and the days of the Bobs gathering in one big happy moot are far behind. There’s anti-Bob sentiment on multiple planets, the Skippies playing with an AI time bomb, and multiple Bobs just wanting to get away from it all.
But it all pales compared to what Icarus and Daedalus discover on their 26,000-year journey to the center of the galaxy. Sure, it could settle the Fermi Paradox for good (and what Bob doesn’t want to solve a mystery of the universe?). But it also reveals a threat to the galaxy greater than anything the Bobs could have imagined.
Just another average day in the Bobiverse.

Another great tale of the Bobs
First off, lets get it out of the way that so far after less than one week from release, the only 1 star reviews are from people complaining that an “audible original” book is by surprise to no one only available in audiobook format right now. The digital version to read is available four months after release which has been the same for prior Bobiverse books.Dennis E. Taylor has captured my heart once again, and Iâm already planning to listen to this for a second time now that Iâve finished my first run. While Heavenâs River (book 4) took us away from space for a bit, book 5 brings our replicant friends back to the stars. We meet some new characters, revisit familiar faces, and of course, get to enjoy the creative problem-solving that Taylor is so good at. The adventures of ______ and ______ were a highlight, and I loved seeing where their journeys took them. This book feels like a blend of the concepts from book 4 and the earlier entries in the series (1-3).I was surprised by how one of the early conflicts wrapped up, but since space is big, really big, events naturally take their time to unfold. Taylor plans to write around 10 books in the Bobiverse series, but thatâs still flexible according to him. This installment sets the stage perfectly for the next, giving him multiple paths to explore. There are no cliffhangers here, thankfully, and it wraps up nicely like the previous books. The pacing is smooth, and this time, thereâs less jumping between timelines, making it easier to follow the progression of events. Overall, this book didnât disappoint, and Iâll be eagerly awaiting the next one in my favorite audiobook series. Dennis, thank you for sharing your imagination with the world!

Can I get a book version of this … book?
I like audio books. I listen to them occasionally. On long drives, etc. I even listed to the Bobiverse series the second time I went through it. The quality is great. All of that said, it’s dumb and ridiculous that this book .. radio show.. podcast? I’m not even sure what to call it at this stage .. is currently exclusive to Audible. Especially for this long. A week? Fine. Secure your bag Mr. Taylor. Months, though? And to the folks saying “if you have time to read it you have time to listen to it…” I’d offer that most people who read regularly read faster than a narrator, and, frankly, I like to read. It’s a major reason why I got into, you know.. books. Anyway, I get that no one cares, selling out to Amazon is likely pretty profitable, but I’m done with the series. This is stupid, and if it’s just going to be this way with everything this author writes, then I’m done with them, too. I really hope this falls on its face so other authors aren’t tempted to do the same thing.

The series evolves
First off, the elephant in the room. It’s Audible only for now, and a lot of people are unhappy about that. I’m also a little displeased but I don’t know the thought process that went into the decision, I assume the exclusivity helped pay the bills. So I won’t knock off any stars for that.It does help, quite a lot, that the narration is pretty good. I normally stick to non-fiction for my audio books because it’s very easy for a narrator to annoy me when voicing multiple characters, but I think in the whole book this narrator only had one character voice that bugged me, and she only had a few lines. I actually enjoyed all the others so that mollified me a fair bit.I can’t say too much about the book without doing spoilers, but it is a bit more scattered than most. Once again we have an alien species that the Bobs have to ‘infiltrate’ for a while, but while in Heaven’s River this was a huge part of the book and the major thread, in this one it’s more a B-plot.This book doesn’t actually have an A-plot, actually. It’s more a bunch of more minor plots running in parallel. This does make it a bit harder to follow than some previous books, but the Bobiverse books have always had multiple plot threads going on, so it’s not that out of form. It is less about the problem-solving that Bob has had to do in the previous ones, though. There’s some of that, but fans of that part may leave feeling a bit hungry.Personally, while it took some getting used to, I think I’m fine with this direction. A couple minor points would maybe knock off half a star if Amazon allowed partial star ratings, but in all I kinda devoured the book so it still has me hooked, I guess!

Dennis and Ray Porter have done it again!
They say ‘travel broadens the mind’. Nowhere in my literary travels has this been more true than when travelling through time, space and the infinite landscapes of human endeavors, foibles and heroism with the Bobs! If you are reading this, you’re probably already familiar with the bobiverse. If you are not, this is certainly not the title you want to start with. Many thanks Dennis (and Ray)!!Lastly (as an aside), to that small minority who came here with 1-star-gripes only to complain about release dates of the audiobook vs. the print edition being some kind of amazonian conspiracy…that’s just silly, and in context, ironic. It takes a LONG time to print and distribute a million or so hard-copy books. This is exacerbated by the dwindling number of human beings who actually have time to sit still and read a hard-copy of ANYTHING these days. Because the market for words printed on paper and bound into book form has shrunken to near nothingness, getting time on one of the few remaining high-volume presses is difficult to begin with, not to mention the horrendous environmental waste of trees and other plant matter that require chemical bleaching to make book-quality paper. If you don’t like the global economic and information trends that are causing printed books (and magazines, and newspapers) to lose market share, don’t take it out on the artists and authors who make a living serving the markets that dominate modern reality.
