A comprehensive exploration of the potential of coincidences to expand our understanding of reality and inspire psychological, interpersonal, and spiritual growth
• Scientific and Medical Network’s Annual Book Prize for 2022
• Presents a complete catalog of coincidence patterns with numerous illustrative examples
• Defines the many uses and potential pitfalls of coincidences and highlights the situations in which they are most likely to occur
• Explores the range of explanations for coincidences, including the psychosphere as the medium through which many coincidences take place
Each of us has more to do with creating coincidences than we think. In this broad exploration of the potential of coincidences to expand our understanding of reality, psychiatrist Bernard Beitman, M.D., explores why and how coincidences, synchronicity, and serendipity happen and how to use these common occurrences to inspire psychological, interpersonal, and spiritual growth.
Through a complete catalog of coincidence patterns with numerous illustrative examples, Dr. Beitman clarifies the relationship between synchronicity and serendipity and dissects the “anatomy of a coincidence.” He defines coincidence types through their two fundamental constituents–mental events and physical events. He analyzes the many uses of meaningful coincidences as well as their potential problems. He explains how you will see patterns guiding your life decisions and learn to expect that coincidences are more likely to occur during life stressors, as well as times of high emotion and strong need, which helps you be ready to use them when they occur.
Exploring the crucial role of personal agency–individual thought and action–in synchronicities and serendipities, Dr. Beitman shows that there’s much more behind these occurrences than “fate” or “randomness.”

Fantastic Find for a Psychotherapist
I am a behavioral therapist and work in residential substance use disorder usually teaching classes or running groups. I often talk about the choice point, mindfulness, state of awareness, prayer, akashic record, synchronicity, and how the energy of the universe works (as best that I can), and trying to learn quantum mechanics. This book was fantastic!!! I have talked about Dr Beitman’s work and passed this book around the room often, I even created handouts from his blog on Psychology Today. The book is written in an understandable way that is not too heavy and includes excellent resources and extensive bibliography for further research. My patients love the topic, it takes discussion to a higher level than just basic CBT jargon, but yet not too fringy for my position as a licensed psychotherapist.

Bringing Psi into Science
I appreciate what Dr. Beitman is doing to focus a scientific gaze on a field too often dismissed as “woo-woo.” His Coincidence Project is just beginning but is an excellent step forward. This easy, engaging, anecdotal book is at the perfect level of language, impartiality, and speculation to interest everyday readers in looking at the power of coincidence, synchronicity, and serendipity in their own lives — and it builds a foundation for further research. Also, the open-minded skepticism evident in Dr. Beitman’s podcast and in this book is refreshing when the dogma of Scientism abounds. Highly recommended.

It was okay but there are many thatâs more interesting.
He had a lot of anecdotes-all examples of coincidence, and he share one about himself when he was choking at the same time, His dad died choking. But unfortunately, I did not finish the book because it read too much like a textbook too much into the weeds and I lost interest. I speed read most of the book and although itâs not bad, I give it four stars itâs not one I would highly recommend.

Knowing what a ‘meaningful event’ is intending to convey is4 important.
Its an example tat I have experienced in the past hour when I was watching the tv program, LaBrea . A thought occurred to me to type the name of an author mentioned in the book I was going to resume reading when the program ended, Charles Williams’ The Descent of the Dove . I selected a pdf summary of the book and at once noticed :” The frontispiece is a reproduction of a painting by LudovicoBrea, The presidency of the Holy Spirit over the âholy andglorious fleshâ (âde carne gloriosa ¢ santaââ) is there exhibited …”I had no knowledge of the painter Ludvico Brea and I don’t know if the Los Angeles tar pit or the tv drama are related but the precise timing of the thought that caused me to look for some name and find by accident(?) the name of the program I was watching should convey exactly what the ‘coincidence’ is intended to convey: my location, as best can be done and what I am doing. This book is interesting as an introduction to a very difficult to express idea.

The Best Book on Synchronicity!!!!!!
I am been watching and experiencing synchronicity since 1998. This is the most comprehensive book on synchronicity. Dr. Beitman did an excellent job of explaining the complicated subject of synchronicity. My favorite chapter is chapter 8 on Human GPS: Dr. Beitman lost his dog when he was a boy but found his dog when he accidently went to an unfamiliar street in Cleveland. It was like an invisible force was guiding him to his dog. This is the best book on a very mysterious and fascinating subject. For those searching for answers on synchronicity, you will find a meaningful coincidence with this incredible book!

Exceptionally rich and deep book on Coincidences, Synchronicities and Serendipity
Mind blowing! No wonder Dr. Beitman is the worldâs leading researcher on meaningful coincidences. I have read MANY books on Coincidences. Many are good. Many are relatively superficial. This book is EXCEPTIONAL by its breadth and depth which clearly shows the authors passion and life-long scientific work on this subject. I especially love the incredible stories that Dr. Beitman uses to illustrate the different types of coincidences. Iâm saying WOW out loud about every other page. This book shifts the field of coincidence studies to a whole new level. It is so needed!!! It serves!

Intolerable robotically synthesized narration
I hate to add a two star review to a book that may have 4/5 star content, but I MUST warn all prospective buyers that this is like listening to a text to speech app, or a robot. It sounds like the narrator put their voice through a synthesizer and purposely reads in a stilted manner. Even worse at 1.2x. I had to turn it off and refund right away. Get the Kindle or paperback version!

Writing as someone who has done extensive research on meaningful coincidences, I can say itâs simply the best book Iâve read in several years. Beitman makes clear how we can use meaningful coincidences for positive personal and social evolution. He knows what heâs talking about and depends on the scientific evidence to support his arguments. But the evidence isnât the only place where this book shines. The real-life illustrations of meaningful coincidences left me enthused. There were also several useful tips about how to incorporate coincidence into your life. I even started implementing some of them today!

Je m’attendais à un peu de substance. Je n’ai rien trouvé d’utile ou d’instructif.

It’s all mumbo jumbo and scientific not about real coincidences. I’ve had far more interesting ones than any in the book.
