    Superb Early DDD
Don’t be put off by the dated title of this CD!Grusin/Rosen Productions was well known for the quality of their productions, both the music and sonics. This 1983 recording using the original Glenn Miller arrangements was released about the time that the Compact Disc was introduced to the USA market. They used the state-of-the-art 3M 32-track digital recorders servicing New York’s A&R Recording Studio A-1. The musicianship is top shelf with some of the best big band artists of the early 80’s., including some excellent vocals. The value of this production is in the music, but the pristine recording itself is noteworthy. It is an example of the best that digital could sound at that time. It is very well recorded and mixed. But lest there be no unpleasant surprises, the recording can sound harsh to those few of you sensitive to ‘digititis’. I personally do not have any problem with the recording in this area. Perhaps my only light criticism is that it sounds a little thin in the bass.If you already like big band music, or just want to be exposed to the best of it, buy this disc!(BTW, the GMO is still touring after reforming in 1956. Hear them live if you can!)

The best collection of Glenn Miller music ever
My only complaint… I wish they had done a “Part 2” with even more songs.

    Great Collection!
I already had this on CD, the standard version, but couldn’t find the first copy in time for a wedding so I purchased this version of the album. I was hoping for a noticeable difference (hey, we can all dream) between the standard and the limited edition gold version but no such luck. Don’t get me wrong, this is a great collection, the recordings are flawless, clean, and full, but so are the version included on the standard version. I wish they would do more of these collections. Glenn Miller had a lot more music, and there are a whole bunch of other composers/musicians who had great pieces too.If you can get this version for the same price as the standard version, or even for less, go for it, you won’t be sorry. If it costs a whole lot more, then go for the standard version, you’ll love that too, and save yourself several dollars as well.

Big Band Swing in the Digital Age
The Big Band Sound LIVES! For years I have listened to a cassette recording of the vinyl “Glenn Miller: Pure Gold” whenever the Big Band mood struck me.It’s a breath of fresh air to ehar these great songs freshly recorded by a new generation of musicians populating the on-going Glenn Miller Orchestra.”String Of Pearls” has always been a favorite of mine, and here it’s updated very well.I miss the vocal of Ray Eberle on “At Last”, but here the band still serves up a fine instrumental rendition of a great love song.”Pennsylvania 6-5000″ retains the telephone ring, with a fun touch-tone thrown in at the end.”Moonlight Serenade” has never sounded better.I did not grow up during the original Big Band heyday – my parents did.I’m a child of Rock & Roll, and I always will be. But my old man turned me on to some cool jams from his youth, too.As somebody once said, “Back then, recording techniques were in their infancy. But today – WE can record music as it IS – as YOU hear it!Crisp and clear with every note as bright as the stars in the eyes of the lady you’re dancing with!”Yeah. That says it, man!Buy this CD, and dig how cool the Big Band Sound really is!

This music never gets old … !!
When I was a teenager growing up in the 50s, I remember listening to Glenn Miller on vinyl records that belonged to my parents. I liked the “big band” sound along with “rock & roll” of the 50s and 60s. I purchased a vinyl copy of “In the Digital Mood” that got broken. I was very happy to find this CD. The music is timeless and appeals to any generation, and you can dance to it … !

    Excellent production.
This is an excellent recorded album with great dynamic range.I’m sure if the original players and Glenn Miller himself were alive today, they would be impressed with the sound afforded by modern day recording technology. The only reason old recordings from the ’40s sound they way they do is because the recording technology was not as advanced. But when the music was played live, it certainly sounded closer to what is on this CD.While I would probably prefer if this was recorded with today’s analog recording technology instead of digital, the recording does not sound overly-digital to me and is mastered quite well.

    I am a music lover,but….
As an experienced music lover I am a little disappointed with the audio quality. The playing was good and in the Glenn Miller style, but lacked oomph, appeared a little flat. Some of the offerings on you tube featuring the Glen Miller Band recorded in the last decade were much better and more enjoyable. You had to tap along with that music.

Back in 1983 digital recording and the compact disc were a newish concept – although a mad headlong rush soon ensued, sadly throwing the baby of top-notch analogue recording out with the bathwater. Consequently some early digital recordings in the pop/rock arena are truly shocking (try the harsh, brittle ‘Like A Virgin’ album by Madonna for example). In other cases, however, real care was taken. This is a case in point. Using the original Glenn Miller arrangements this is a best-of with a difference. Sparkling performances and really great, dynamic sound this will blow the dust off your hi-fi. Recommended.
