In the hands of G.I. Joe, the Broadcast Energy Transmitter is a device capable of fulfilling all of the energy needs of Earth. However, in the hands of Cobra and the newly revealed Cobra-La, led by the ancient and otherworldly Golobulus (Burgess Meredith), the B.E.T. could spell the end of human civilization. With Duke critically wounded on the battlefield, it is up to Lieutenant Falcon (Don Johnson) and a new class of G.I. Joe recruits, trained by none other than Sergeant Slaughter, to prevent Golobulus from infecting the entire globe with deadly mutating spores!

GI Joe the movie review
I love this movie going up I especially like that they brought in characters that weren’t in the original series

Nalstalgia !
I’ve had my Ps3 for almost 1/2 a year now and well, I’ve never been happier with any other system. Considering it has a Blu Ray player I started buying blu rays like they were going out of style, and when I came across this one I about passed out. I grew up on this cartoon, along side Transformers, C.O.P.S.:Fighting Crime in a Future time, J.E.M. and others as well, and to see this fully restored left my jaw on the ground. The ONLY, and I mean ONLY complaint I have, will probably turn most off, but I don’t care, this is a “Free country” and What I really hated about this movie is that they REMOVED part of the G I Joe logo! Where once it read: A Real American Hero: G I Joe, now has been turned into: “GI Joe”. Nothing else…. Now while this will upset the TRUE fans of this movie, don’t let it totally bother you, because the movie is relatively the same as it was back then. There are a few parts though I think that got cut out though. ;( Not sure which ones, but I will be back in a few days to let people know.Other then that its the same one we have all loved growing up. End of story! would I recommend it? YES! So what are you wating for? Transformers on blu ray you say? Ok, I agree, and it’s coming out in a few months as well! Buy that as well! lol
To who it may concern –

Craziness gets crazier…
The hit G.I. Joe cartoon in the 80’s often had a bit of sci-fi & fantasy built into it; here in this full-length feature film these crazy elements get taken to a whole new level. This is a *SPOILER* type review- please skip reading if you need to be surprised. As far as being an inexpensive way to relive this great 80’s series, this film is nice to get. A ton of popular characters make brief appearances, with three sets of *new* characters introduced beyond that. Still, for me, this film really sees the series jump the shark in a few ways.- The 1st set of new characters are the new villains of Cobra-La: Golobulus, Pythona, Nemesis Enforcer, and various other humanoid creatures.- The 2nd set of new characters are the new Joes, the Rawhides: Chuckles, Tunnel Rat, Big Lob, Jinx, Law & Order, and Lt. Falcon.- The 3rd set of new characters are Sgt. Slaughter’s Renegades: Red Dog, Mercer, and Taurus. The reason I say this film jumps the shark for me is that, though I like the new Joe characters, my immediate interest isn’t nearly as high in the new Cobra-La characters, or anything related to the craziness of their conception.A secret race of snake-like humanoids that want to conquer the world, it’s revealed that they’re the ones who’ve been largely financially backing Cobra all this time. Golobulus is set up to be the biggest leader of Cobra now, even higher ranking than Serpentor. It’s even revealed that Cobra Commander is part of this hidden race, and we get to see his original physical appearance before he starts wearing his famous mask(!). He goes on to get hit in the face with some mutant spores, and for the rest of this film he keeps changing into the form of a real snake, until the change is complete and he simply slithers away. That’s it for Cobra Commander! If there were to be a Season 3 for this 80’s G.I. Joe series, it seems this film is supposed to be the starting point. It’s interesting to me that they never did make a Season 3.A nice thing I can say about the Cobra-La characters is that their introduction helps to give the series a feeling of moving forward, rather than just stagnating and being redundant. It’s just that this story line, for whatever reason, was never fully developed.Yet with so many popular characters appearing and with all the fast-paced & intense action, I’m actually glad I bought this. All in all, craziness included, I still think this film is a good deal of fun. And I *highly* recommend listening to the audio commentary by story consultant Buzz Dixon- it’s very insightful & entertaining.

A must have if you own the original series!
This a great transfer and you can tell they put some effort into it. I purchased the original series and needed to complete it with the movie. The special features were lacking considering all the materials you can find online. There was also only one audio track (2.0 stereo) and a commentary track but a 5.1 track would have been great and put this purchase over the top.

This is one of a few purchases I made to help myself own a Triple Crown of animated TV from this era, which I have a lot of respect and admiration for. It’s also part of a larger shared universe where I need to own all 3 complete series to have the whole thing.

Never knew this dvd existed! I’ve just bought myself a copy 4 years after it’s release. For those kids who grew up abroad, GI Joe was an institution! This dvd set with 5 season 1 episodes is a great taster for those wanting to reminisce the good ole days without forking out for a $100+ US OOP boxset (the rare Rhino ones). Thanks Metrodome! Let’s have more GI Joe in volume sets as well as continuing the Jem series!
