Are your thoughts holding you captive? I’ll never be good enough. Other people have better lives than I do. God couldn’t really love me. Jennie Allen knows what it’s like to swirl in a spiral of destructive thoughts, but she also knows we don’t have to stay stuck in toxic thinking patterns.
As she discovered in her own life, God built a way for us to escape that downward spiral. Freedom comes when we refuse to be victims to our thoughts and realize we have already been equipped with power from God to fight and win the war for our minds.
In Get Out of Your Head, Jennie inspires and equips us to transform our emotions, our outlook, and even our circumstances by taking control of our thoughts. Our enemy is determined to get in our heads to make us feel helpless, overwhelmed, and incapable of making a difference for the kingdom of God. But when we submit our minds to Christ, the promises and goodness of God flood our lives in remarkable ways.
It starts in your head. And from there, the possibilities are endless.

I really enjoyed it!
I had been seeing this book here and there over the last few months but hadnât gotten around to reading it. One day, Jennie Allen was featured on the Bible Appâs story which made me finally decide to read it. I still didnât buy it right then, but while watching a sermon on YouTube later that day, I heard the Holy Spirit tell me to buy the book. I did so right then and started reading it later that night before bed. Before I put it down to go to sleep, I already knew why He pushed me to read it. God has been dealing with me about spiritual warfare which is something that sort of pushes her into a season that became the experience that led her to write this book. From there, she talks about her experiences with negative thought spirals and how she was able to get a hold of it. (Maybe not completely, but does anyone fully stop them?) I have been dealing with this essentially my whole life, but things really made a turn for the worst about 8 years ago. And for the next 6 years, it took me to the darkest days Iâve ever seen. God has been pulling me out over the last 2 years, and this book really helped me to truly find my light. Iâve highlighted many things and saved them as images to look back through from time to time because I know itâs never a one and done.Iâve seen some references from people who didnât like or finish the book because of her âmiddle class white womanâ references or her perceived ramblings. (These have come from people of color and white women alike.) Iâm a black woman, and I disagree. I donât like Starbucksâ overpriced, tar-tasting coffee nor the overly sweet stuff either, but the references did not throw me off so that I could not understand the basic point she was making. Nor does it annoy me so much that I couldnât continue reading. As the author, she should be free to share her life and experiences as she feels necessary to show Godâs hand on her life and heart. And yes, I understand that you are free not to read it if you so choose. Iâm just making a point. Also, some say that it wasnât practical so they didnât finish it. Well, the application piece is the last section of the book, so you missed it, sis.Nevertheless, I cannot guarantee that it will help you, but I can tell you that it blessed me.

Recommend
I want to start off by saying that I bought this book when I was needing a push, and it did just that. The book itself focuses majorly on the concept of having a choice, and I think the author does very well at enunciating this point throughout and showing how you can work through these choices.I think that the overall themes and messages are super strong, though the books starts to feel a bit redundant pretty early on. The same ideas are restated over and over, which is good in the sense of placing emphasis on whatâs important, but it got a little hard to read at times because I felt like I kept reading the same words sentence after sentence.Overall I would definitely recommend this read, it did help me reframe my thinking and it does well at incorporating God into mental illness without sounding super preachy (she does well at explaining the Bible verses and relating to them).

Life giving words!
I am a minister for over 25 years now and have struggled with paralyzing negative thoughts. They have cost me employment, family peace and of course financially. I have been searching for answers on how to be transformed by the renewing of my mind and here you break it down. Thank you! I will share this with everyone I minister to!

I’ll start this review off by saying, if you’re not open to the possibility of God, or you’re not willing to hear it from that perspective, this is *not* the book for you!! And that’s okay. But, luckily for me, this book was exactly what I needed and came at the perfect time.Jennie Allen has a way of writing that will keep you hooked. I found myself taking breaks from work just so I could sit and read it. If I was feeling anxious, especially at outings, just reading a page would relax me. It shows you that those deep, dark thoughts are more normal than you think, and you can get rid of them. Jennie had been in a dark place for 18 months, the exact same place I went to these past months. Her insight helps you gain a new perspective on it and change your mindset.I’m sure this book isn’t for everyone, but if you’ve experienced anxiety and stress, it might just be for you. It helped me so much. Every morning for the past few months I’ve had morning sickness from anxiety, until only recently. This is because the first thing I do every morning is open my Jennie Allen book (i’m reading another one now!!), and straight away I feel the tension fade away.An amazing book. I finished it in about two days, meanwhile, there are books that have been on my floor mid-read since January.
