Foundations of Music Technology explores the core concepts of music technology and its uses as a mechanism to facilitate musicianship in a way that is accessible to all students–from the musician with limited technology skills to the technology expert with little knowledge in music notation. The text uses a free, customized software application for Mac or PC in order to demonstrate fundamental concepts of music technology germane to all professional applications like recording, synthesis, digital notation, MIDI, automating effects, acoustics, and more. With the concepts grasped using this “software-independent” approach, students can then transfer those learned skills over to the software of their choice.

The book that I ordered was a little damaged in the bottom, but still very readable! The shipping and other stuff was amazing!

eBook format needed. Please!
I have heard just the best things about this book. I am very interested to read it and hopefully integrate it in my Syllabus. However. Please make it available for sale as iBook and Amazon format ebook. Digital format is essential with today’s students. Take advantage of this, before other books, less deserving perhaps, will be chosen as a “required book for the course” just out of convenience.

Best of the bunch…
I have taught an Intro. to Music Technology course for a decade, and the problem with all texts is the obsolescence that comes with them. What I like about this book is that Manzo focuses on the concepts, not specific software. This allows the overall concepts to be learned and then translated to the students’ software of choice. The companion software is great as well. It’s very clear and accessible Nicely done.
