Culturally Sustaining Pedagogies raises fundamental questions about the purpose of schooling in changing societies. Bringing together an intergenerational group of prominent educators and researchers, this volume engages and extends the concept of culturally sustaining pedagogy (CSP)―teaching that perpetuates and fosters linguistic, literate, and cultural pluralism as part of schooling for positive social transformation. The authors propose that schooling should be a site for sustaining the cultural practices of communities of color, rather than eradicating them. Chapters present theoretically grounded examples of how educators and scholars can support Black, Indigenous, Latinx, Asian/Pacific Islander, South African, and immigrant students as part of a collective movement toward educational justice in a changing world.

Love love love this thoughtful book of essays. This should be mandatory reading for teachers, especially white ones, but is such an interesting read for anyone in my opinion! I hope that they continue to compile these as times continue to change.

Excellent must-read
This book came in just in time for me to prepare for a session at a conference. WOW!! All educators need to read this regardless of the ethnicity of their students. The need for de-colonization becomes so clear in this text. Thank you!

this is my second time buying this book
For all yâall liberal arts students buying this for your education courses this is the hottest book rn all the instructors are going to be using it so do not ever sell your copy or give it away cause I did and had to buy it again. Btw when I first bought this book in January of 2018 it was 15 dollars so seriously hold onto it until youâre out, price is only gonna go up until a new edition comes out.Other than that itâs a textbook so it isnât exactly light reading but it is easy to read in the fact that it was written that way. Most of the book is teaching anecdotes to incorporate culturally sustaining pedagogy into your lessons and uses the anecdotes to demonstrate how to do so.
