Great comprehensive approach to reducing procrastination
I have a doctorate in clinical psychology and consider myself somewhat of an expert on the topic of procrastination. Though thoroughly studied on the topic, I am not myself impervious to its effects on my life and productivity. As I started my new job as an author and life coach, there have been many new tasks and habits to adopt over the past 6 months. With so many novel tasks to learn, feeling overwhelmed and resulting procrastination has reared their ugly heads. This is where Hayden Crosswell’s “BREAKING FREE” has been tremendously helpful in that it offered a comprehensive overview of the issues and strategies involved, so I was able to readily identify “disconnection from the task” (in Chapter One) as my main culprit. Crosswell also offered several strategies for addressing this obstacle, which I also appreciated and utilized. Also of note is Crosswell’s discussions of cognitive distortions (very important), traditional productivity strategies (SMART goals, time management, habit stacking), and accountability partnering (very helpful for me), and dealing with modern day distractions like technology (also very important!).Overall, I recommend this book because it is so comprehensive in the breadth of topics addressed, as well as the author going into fair depth for most of these topics. Great job!

This is a practical and easy to read book that gives a lot of good tips on how to overcome procrastination. Some I already knew, some were new to me. Time management is really hard for me, so I found the suggested techniques in that section helpful. The author gives a good definition of both the reasons and the costs of procrastination in terms of mental health and relationships. The chapter on creating a comprehensive plan to overcome procrastination will help a lot of people. A clear and useful book.

What a real eye-opener! I never thought Procrastination was so deep. I had always thought it was simply laziness. This book explains in depth the various reasons for procrastination and how to overcome it using many different methods, such as forming new habits, forming accountability partners or groups, and learning how depression can cause procrastination. It also explains how to look after your mental health. It’s a great read. I have no hesitation in recommending “Breaking Free.”
