Explore Automated Market Makers (AMMs), the underlying protocols used by decentralized exchanges (DEX) to allow users to perform trades of cryptocurrencies in a decentralized way with no middlemen. This book provides a thorough study and a clear-cut exposition of the principal AMMs (Uniswap v2 and v3, Balancer, and Curve).
You’ll receive a detailed description of how these AMMs work, unveiling the mathematics behind them and showing plenty of examples as well as novel proofs for several interesting facts. Each chapter describes an AMM’s core idea and derives the mathematical formulas used in the code, giving careful explanations of the logical thinking involved and detailing the steps needed to reach those formulas. All these explanations are complemented with thoughtfully chosen examples which further help to enlighten the readers on how the formulae work. In addition, the relevant parts of the codes of the AMMs are shown after explaining each formula sothat the actual implementation of the formulae can be seen.
In a traditional trading market a buy order has to be matched with a sell order to achieve a trade. However, for an AMM, users trade against the protocol itself, a smart contract, or a community pool of funds. In simple terms this is an open source computer program in which mathematical formulas define prices. Automated Market Makers examines this critical point revealing that no banks or intermediaries are necessary, giving crucial financial access to a much larger crowd, regardless of who they are with less barriers to access.

Thorough, technical, and clear book on AMMs
âââââ Fantastic book! The authors did an incredible job providing a thorough exploration of various AMM concepts, covering everything from Constant Function Market Makers like Uni v2, Balancer, and Curve, to the more complex concentrated liquidity AMM, Uni v3.Not to mention that the authors have great backgrounds in math and DeFi, so they are very reputable sources to write on this topic.Although the book is quite mathy and technical, the explanations are clear and comprehensive, making it an invaluable resource for anyone interested in understanding the intricate workings of automated market makers. Highly recommended!

Extremely useful and well-written. A must for anyone in DeFi!
The book starts from the basics of Automated Market Makers (AMMs), and covers content all the way up to Uniswap V3, easily one of the more complicated types of AMMs currently in the web3 space. It discusses the theoretical foundations of AMMs on a very reader-friendly manner. The math is very clear and the book has plenty of easy-to-follow examples. It also provides some codes (listings) discussing the implementation of some of the smart contracts described.Overall, as someone who both really appreciates mathematical rigorosity (something that at times I feel is lacking in some of the other DeFi literature) as well as clear, easy-to-follow examples, I highly recommend this book.

Thorough coverage of automated market makers!
I eagerly awaited the release of this book and was not disappointed upon finally receiving it. It is an excellent resource that provides a comprehensive overview of automated market makers (AMMs), both from a mathematical and practical standpoint. The book includes a wealth of examples to illustrate the concepts discussed, making it an invaluable resource for anyone interested in this topic.I wanted to see more trading examples, but I learned a ton about AMM designs and I am very happy that I bought it!
