Another Great ‘American Experience’ Documentary
How many realize that nearly a half century after black Americans were freed from slavery and could vote, American women were stilled barred from the polls? The struggle to enfranchise women began well before the Civil War and was hard fought until it finally succeeded in 1920. This documentary, highly reminiscent in style of Ken Burns’s ‘Civil War,’ tells the long tale, I believe, to anyone’s satisfaction. One of the more interesting aspects is the amount of infighting that went on among women’s vote activists concerning the best tactics to pursue, and also how they stiff armed other civil rights movements, such as that of black Americans, for fear it would sully their own struggle. It is an education in the nitty-gritty of how political movements worked – and still do. Good history, well told and well worth watching.

Amazing women who never gave up!
About 100 years ago a generation of women organized, pleaded, protested, sacrificed and finally overcame the male prejudice of the time to grasp the right to vote for womenâ¦in the United States! Our own political dark ages. Amazing story of incredible women. They were/are owed much.
