What a turn around: Amazon just made their best leather case ever!
What a fantastic case. Before we can talk about this case you have to understand where Amazon was coming from… for the 11th generation Paperwhite they had a leather case that shined like plastic, looked like plastic, had fake “hide” texture imprinted on it, and smelled like rubber. It was horrible. This 12th generation case (in walnut) is trescendent… first off it smells incredible with a rich raw leather smell like the best wallets made from full grain leather. Second it is smooth and feels like velvet, brushing your hand on it reveals different shades of color in the surface in sunlight, again it’s fantastic. Third it absolutely shows marks like real leather, so brush it with a finger nail and you will see a line… but just like real leather those lines disappear with use and friction. Finally it’s clear it will patina like real leather, so I fully expect the case to darken and show natural wear as it absorbs oils etc. This is the best leather case for Kindle Amazon has ever made. It rivals and exceeds even the one they made years ago for Oasis, and it represents a total 180 from the disastrous version they made for the last generation of Paperwhite. The12th generation Paperwhite and Colorsoft users who love real leather shouldn’t hesitate, this is an outstanding case.

Super thin leather
While a very nice case, the actual leather covering is paper thin. In my mind when I purchased, I figured for the price it was going to be nice thick leather. Time will tell how the leather actually holds up to dings and scratches.Edit: Dropping down to 1 star. So many scratches in just a couple of days of use…I’ve never seen leather scratch so easily. Would not recommend, especially at this price point. I have to question the other 5 star reviews…..are those paid reviewers?

Slightly more elegant, slightly improved, dated, anachronistic, very average Kindle case…
PROS:Exactly the same quality as the Amazon Oasis leather case released years ago, but apparently a lot nicer than the leather case for the v11 Paperwhite. So if you like this basic case design, I think youâll be happy with the material and build quality of the version for the Colorsoft & PW V12.The leather is nude-finished and has an aroma of fine calfskin.Not sure what to make of the reviewer who said that this case has a chemical smell. Not true for the case that I received.The molded plastic interior that clips on to the Kindle has been reinforced in the areas that have tended to crack in past versions of this case.CONS:The molded plastic interior seems to still be made from brittle, crack-prone plastic. Why hasnât Amazon changed to a more pliant material that would be more long-lasting?The plastic interior is open on the top and bottomâplease see the attached photo. If you happen to drop your Kindle in just the right way the case will offer little protection.The basic design of this case with a front flap isnât great for marathon reading where one may be holding a Kindle for hours. It adds weight, bulk and fussiness.This super-premium leather version limits the use of the WATER-RESISTANT Kindle to dry areas since the case itself isnât designed to get wet.The cloth version of this case is specifically designed for use in wet areas. So for half the price the cloth version offers greater utility than this leather version?OTHER OPTIONS?A simple TPU case like what many folks use for their phones would work better for long reading sessions.A simple padded pouch would be more protective for storage and travel.The two in combination would trump the utility of this case at less than half the cost.FINAL THOUGHTS:Amazon all but invented e-readers and has continuously improved the form and capability of Kindles over the years. And yet Amazon Kindle cases havenât really changed at all in more than a decade. Bougie Leather Case for the 2024 Kindle Paperwhite
This is my third Kindle and Amazon brand Kindle Case. I had the fabric cases previously, but I wanted to try something different and more ‘bougie’ if you will. The downside is the cost… It pushes your Kindle purchase over $200, but I prefer to see that Amazon logo and know the company behind the product. In my experience Amazon’s branded cases are of a higher quality than the litany of third party providers and worth the price premium. On the upside the leather is on the front and the back of the traditional plastic form fitting case. It snaps on easy and is very secure. In contrast to other reviewers in my experience the leather did not smell. Only if I hold it up to my face… and it’s a nice smell. Leather scratches, yes, but it also heals itself. I don’t plan on it, but if the scratches bother you then you can A) be careful not to drag your finger nails across the surface, or B) use a leather conditioner to protect it like your boots / purse / etc.

Poorly finished leather not worth the price
While the inside is nice and the molded shell gives the Kindle good protection, the leather is essentially unfinished. It is dyed brown but scuffs and scratches with the slightest touch. It is certainly not up to par with Amazonâs previous leather covers.

La funda ajusta perfectamente, es ligera y el cierre magético es perfecto. El acabado es en piel natural, tanto por delante como por detrás, con el tacto y el olor de la piel. Lo que conviene saber es que es extremadamente delicada: basta un roce para dejar una raya o una marca. En una semana de uso cuidadoso su aspecto es el de piel antigua o muy usada, como muestra la foto. Personalmente eso me gusta, pero puede que a otras personas les moleste. Me preocupa que con el tiempo el aspecto se deteriore en exceso.
