Wonderful book for new investors, and anyone interested in aligning investments with values
This is a great book. Itâs clear, well organized, well-written, has lots of example scenarios, and it fills a giant chasm in the investing literature. Itâs both an excellent means to get familiar with financial-markets basics, and also for how to deploy your money to better places. I believe this one book can turn lives around, from financial ignorance to investing well for a better future for all of us. The author aims it toward women but the vast majority seems to me totally applicable to men too.Books on investing can be intimidating to new investors, so many of whom wonder if they have enough money to invest anywhere, much less toward values-related investing. The book delves into this, and covers how you can get started aiming your money better, no matter how much you have.A good first question is whether you want to spend time managing your money or not. There are many good reasons to get involved, but also many good reasons not to. Read this book and then even if you donât want to put a ton of time into money management, youâll be much better able to find pros who will do it well for you, both in terms of aligning with your values, and bringing you a healthy return.Highly recommended.

After hearing Janine speak, tell her personal story, and explain her process of aligning her finances with her values, I’ve been eagerly anticipating the release of this book. I’ve devoured the first chapters in which Janine encourages action while also acknowledging all the emotions and history we carry with us around money. It was fun to consider the eight financial archetypes and powerful to think about investing with the Sustainable Development Goals as a framework. I appreciate that terms and concepts are clearly called out and explained throughout the book and that so many other powerful, knowledgeable women have contributed. I can’t wait to dig in further. I view this important book as a tool and a road map for me as I continue my own process of aligning my finances with my values with the goal of shifting power to communities and people of color and to building economic and racial equity in our country so that we can all prosper together.

A MUST READ FOR ANYONE INTERESTED IN VALUES-ALIGNED INVESTMENTS
This very readable, interesting and inspiring book is a fountain of information on the nuts and bolts of impact investing. As a novice investor, I had a lot to learn about values-aligned investing and this book ticked off all the boxes. It provided the very basics in an easy-to-read and organized format while keeping the subject interesting with anecdotes and examples of the author’s and others’ personal experiences. It explains in very understandable terms how you can make meaningful investments in progressive causes and still grow your money. Although the book is written primarily for women I think anyone interested in the subject matter would find it informative. If you want to make a difference in this world by where you put your money, no matter the amount, run don’t walk to buy this essential book.

I founded an organization called Closing the Womenâs Wealth Gap to galvanize women to change economic systems that arenât working for them. Activate Your Money reminded me that despite systemic inequities, women have power to use their own financial resources to affect the change they want to see in the world. Much to consider here
As someone who’s been investing for years and feels they know the market fairly well, Ms Firpo’s book reminds me there are other asset classes where I’m not as diversified as I should be. She provides other insights and strategies I have not considered. In addition she provides a lens that helps me think about whether my money is doing good in the world. I particularly liked the insets that told little stories as well as provided definitions to some of the archaic language that surrounds the financial world. The companion website has a lot of additional information that I haven’t delved into yet. I’ve noticed several references in the book for content specific videos as well as other tools that I’d like to take a look at.

Being a novice investor, this book has peeled back the mystery and intimidation of financial investing. The author has used âlaymanâ terms, examples and anecdotes to create an understandable and informative guide as to how and where to invest your money to make it grow, and if desired, aligning those investments with your own values and goals. There is an accompanying website that supports the book and provides additional tools and resources to help make the information in the book actionable. This book has given me the confidence and understanding I needed to take control of my investments. This is truly a unique and comprehensive resource that makes the goal of a 100% values-aligned portfolio seem totally doable!
