Rumours of the Nazis coming for Czech children swept through the villages like a breeze through the trees, and the story was always the same…They wanted our children to raise as their own

Since her husband, Josef, joined the Czech resistance three years ago, Anna Dankova has done everything possible to keep her daughter, Ema, safe. But when blonde haired, blue-eyed Ema is ripped from her mother’s arms in the local marketplace by the dreaded Brown Sisters, nurses who were dedicated to Hitler’s cause, Anna is forced to go to new extremes to take back what the Nazis have stolen from her.

Going undercover as a devoted German subject eager to prove her worth to the Reich, the former actress takes on a role of a lifetime to find and save her daughter. But getting close to Ema is one thing. Convincing her that the Germans are lying when they claim Anna stole her from her true parents is another…

A wonderful story, based on truth
Czech children are stolen by the Nazi’s during World War II. They are put into orphanages to be brainwashed into obedient German children. Then they are placed into German homes. This is the story of one mother’s attempt to reclaim her young daughter. The book is a page-turner.I have read many books about the atrocities of World War II, but never heard of this horrific chapter.

    Outstanding novel 4.5/5
A child for the Reich is a well written story that combines a fictional story with terrible historical facts. The story is about a Czech woman’s struggle to survive and save herself and her daughter from the Nazis. The story is filled with adventure, espionage, sadness, and hope. The only negative comment I have about it is that some of the characters are very stereotypical. Despite that it’s well worth reading for anyone looking for a drama novel featuring a female lead who is flawed in realistic ways but willing to risk her life for her child.

    Best ever story and history!
This is the first book I have read concerning the war with Germany and Hitler . I couldn’t put it down and finish it in one reading! So depressing and interesting at the same time. The devastating events and described horror of the feelings of the mothers and people was extremely excellent writing buy the author. No editing errors. No multiple words used to describe in order to take up space. One of the most enjoyable and interesting books I’ve read. Look forward to reading other books by this author who shows maturity and intelligence! 5 stars, more if I could! 🙂 Thank you for the great story!

a shocking era of history with another evil twist…
This story is filled with a look at another shocking part of WW2. The collection and redistribution of children and the lies that were told to the adoptive German parents.

    Intense
This book was hard to put down, but also a difficult read especially for mothers. Rather than only antisemitism here I read about other disgusting immoralities and evils of the Reich. Though I really enjoyed the excellent writing and espionage story in Newton’s The Secret Pianist and wanted to read more of her World War II books before I read this, this story was so intense that I have to take a break now with something lighter.

    Moving story
The main character became so nervous each time she faced a possible problem, it’s a wonder, her real identity and reason for being there wasn’t discovered.it gave the story a lot of suspense!I learned and read some facts I had never heard or read before, about children being stolen from their families, and how children were treated by the reich.

What a great book! This author is certainly worth following.
I read this book on my Kindle. Borrowed from a local online library. After I finished it, I couldn’t stop thinking about the story, the characters, and how well-written it is. I loved the book so much that I decided to buy it. It’s worth much more than what I paid for it! And it’s so refreshing to discover an author who didn’t use profanity or sex to ruin the reading experience.

A good read if you’re into 2nd World War. Interesting how the ideas of one maniac serve as an excuse for all sorts of hideous behaviour by others.

Reading books on the war, really brings into perspective just how lucky we are for the people who fought for our freedom. Knowing about stolen children and what families had to endure is unbelievable. I pray we never go there again!

Although the story is fictitious, it was based on the stolen Czech & Polish children stolen by the Nazi’s during the 2nd world war. An eye opener as I’d had no idea that so many children who looked ‘Aryan’ had been stolen from other nations during the war. This very powerful story centres around a mother who risked everything to recover her stolen child.
