Jack of All Trades – The Complete Series

WOW! I am so glad i got this
arrived fast and in great condition. FULL SCREEN and good color picture, sound was also great. when this 1st came out I only got to see a few episodes. lots of amazing acting and the use of some interesting phrases . you need to watch out for Black Beard and Mr Napoleon, both are simply so worth the price of admission. Glad I finally got this and do highly recommend.

Unknown and unseen originally, but now much loved
When this show originally aired, I never saw it because I had never heard of it. I found this show through Amazon’s recommendations, and when I read the description I decided to give it a buy and a try.Bruce Campbell starring in a post-Revolutionary, Colonial-era spy series – who wouldn’t want to see that! Then when I watched the first episode I knew this was worth the purchase. The first scene has the French soldiers holding the President’s niece prisoner, and then Bruce (Jack) bursts in through the window and delivers what has proven to be the first of many great and hilarious lines of dialogue. “I would have knocked, but my fists had other plans.” And then he procedes to knock-out the baddies and rescue the girl. Then Jefferson sends him off on his new mission and things get better from there.When he is about to get captured by the Governor, Jack grabs a curtain and a bit of Emilia’s underwear to become The Daring Dragoon. The Governor has the family portrait of him and his brother Napoleon, who is standing on top of a step-ladder. They continue the running gag about how short Napoleon was a couple episodes later when he is played by Verne “Mini-Me” Troyer, who makes his entrance by rolling out of the red carpet. If you check the credits they even named the big guy who carries Napoleon around “Maxi Me” – I split my side the first time I saw that! Plus there are the inventions created by Emilia and usually tested first on Jack. The French parrot who delivers their orders. Jack’s horse named Nutcracker – for a fairly obvious reason. The anachronism of Blackbeard appearing in this 1801 time period, but then he drinks kerosene and belches fire – so he’s got that going for him. And there’s the funny theme song sung by the boys in the tavern. And all of the other great bits of comedy spread throughout the show. I haven’t finished all of the episodes yet, but I’m looking forward to all of them.

Let’s Hear It for Fractured History!
This series is zany, raunchy fractured history at its best, right up there with Black Adder and ‘Allo,’Allo. Bruce Campbell, a worthy swashbuckling successor to Errol Flynn and Tyrone Power (if they had been somewhat tilted), heads a cast of hilarious goofballs in a spoof of the post-American Revolutionary period. An American spy, Jack, he is assigned to work with an English spy on a potty little French island in the South Pacific, trying their best to foil the French secret plans to rule the world. The two of them are posing as an English merchant and her aide. Notice I said “her.” She is Emilia, a feisty scientist and inventor and the actress who plays her is a perfect foil for our Bruce. The two characters bicker with each other and scheme behind each other’s backs to achieve their own countries’ aims but nevertheless show genuine respect and affection for each other.Into this mixture rides Jack as his heroic alter ego, The Dashing Dragoon, complete with black mask, sword, huge swirling red cape, and his trusty horse, Nutcracker. He foils villains and exposes plots and rescues people, that is, when he doesn’t fall over his own cape or have to be rescued by Emilia.No famous historical icon is safe in this series, from President Jefferson to Benjamin Franklin to Czarina Catherine of Russia to King George of England to Napoleon, a true “Little Corporal” played with great gusto by a midget. Anachronisms, double entendre and slapstick abound. You will laugh until you hurt at the ferocious tiny Napoleon, the “typical American Thanksgiving Day”, occasional cross-dressing, and Lewis and Clark trying to find Oregon in the South Pacific — they also don’t know that the Revolutionary War is over.Don’t miss this one! No review can really do justice to its wonderful craziness or to the talent and skill with which it was created.

Turn off your brain and have some fun
Jack of all trades is neiter politically nor horistorical correct. Blackbeard is a fire-breathing pirate, Napoleon a midget. This would be a turn-off for me within other comedies, but in this series it works.The characters are so much reduced to a part, that it is fun to watch them. First of all Jack. Jack is an american special agent which thinks he can do really everthing. Emilia is a britisch agent with a more inflexible, more britisch behaviour. They team up a little bit like The Persuaders!”.Together they try to avoid that Napoleon becomes the ruler of the world.The series looks a little bit like a mix between Wild Wild West & Brisco Country Jr. It makes much fun to watch it, but is not very sophisticated.Politisch unkorrekt, historisch falsch, nicht besonders anspruchsvoll, Scherze ala “Du must dreidimensional denken” : “Das tue ich 90-60-90” – und trotzdem ist die Serie lustig.Die Titelmelodie geht einem sehr schnell in den Kopf und später nicht mehr heraus.Worum geht’s? Man hat in der Serie viele überzeichnete Figuren, Napoleon als Zwerg, der strahlende Held Jack könnte aus einer amerikanischen 60er Jahre Produktion stammen, die Heldin Emilia ist die prüde englische Agentin … Das Heldenpaar (was leider nie ein Paar wird) versucht die Bemühungen Napoleons, die Südsee und die Welt zu erobern, zu verhindern. Inklusive Uboot, feuerfesten Mänteln und ähnlichem. Emilia ist wohl die “Q” der napoleonischen Ära.Die Serie wirkt unheimlich leicht, nicht sonderlich um etwas verbissen bemüht, und macht einfach Spaß. Ich kann super dabei entspannen, es muss ja nicht immer was anspruchsvolles sein.
