Excellent Series
This series is aimed toward children, but I would argue that an adult beginner would benefit significantly too. Very thoroughly thought-out with simple explanations. Lots of color and charts. The Reference section is like a mini poster on many of the pages. The only thing this book is not is a complete reference of chords and scales. Which is good because you learn HOW to do it instead of not understanding and just memorizing some of them.My only disappointment was no mention of neither Equal Temperament nor Microtuning. IMHO these subject are crucial to understanding music and would have done well to be included at the end of Section 7 (Instruments and Voices). It would have been nice to have the option of a hard cover too.If you want to learn how to read music and/or understand it at a professional level then this book is for you. Itâs the best book on music for beginners that Iâve ever seen. Youâll be off to a grand start. I also purchased the Math, Science and Language titles (as a buldle) from this series too. I recommend all four titles.

Adult giving music a try.
So I decided to go with a child book because I’ve never learned music before and I must say I really like this book. It’s high quality and it’s plain and simple. I would recommend for any adult trying for the first time or children at the recommended age that is on the book.

FOR ADULTS (not just kids) who wish to learn how to read music from the beginning!
I bought this for my granddaughter (10) whoâs learning Piano on her own with the online program SIMPLY PIANO. This book explains everything needed to learn how to read music. Sheâs doing great with it. This would also be excellent for an adult wishing to learn how to read music ð¼ ð¶

Nicely laid out, but a bit challenging
I don’t know the first thing about music, but always wanted to learn the basics. When this book popped up in the search results it looked like something I could understand. Not so much. The book’s title intimated it was a guide for parents to help their kids understand music theory. The ‘Look Inside’ feature showed it was beyond the elementary school level, and most HS students don’t ask their parent’s for help, so I assumed it was targeted more towards the middle-school level, which I should be able to follow. The first two chapters were okay, but after that it got confusing, and a few chapters later, I was totally lost. It’s still a good book and the graphic/visual layout is nice, but for me, there was too much info.

Wonderful! Thorough but brief!
I searched high and low for a good book to teach my violin students theory. I was skeptical because there were not many reviews but I bought this and I have to say it is amazing. Everything is touched on and the information is brief by thorough. I love all of the colors in the book. I am even going to use this for my adult students!

Main text is tiny gray print, hard to see even though I donât have any vision impairments. Also more complicated than I expected. Hoping some sections might still be useful.
