GREAT cube for ALL skill levels!
SO happy with this purchase! My son and I randomly bought a Rubik’s cube and I decided to try and learn to solve it properly. I started with YouTube videos and was able to solve the first 2 layers within the first week, but found it difficult to remember the rest of the steps and algorithms. I already knew I wanted to get a smoother moving cube, and thought maybe there is one with an app that could help make learning the rest easier. When I saw GoCube, I knew I had to try it out, and I’m so glad I did!This thing is as smooth as butter! I’m no pro cuber, obviously, but the magnets make such a difference. The overall look is super sleek, as well. The app is the biggest highlight for me. The “Academy” section of the app was great for learning. They break up each step and include short videos. I was able to learn a better way to do what I already knew, and it made learning and remembering the algorithms so much easier. I was solving the cube repeatedly on my own in less than a week. Now that I have mastered solving the cube, I am working on bringing down my solve time. I can time my solves with the app, which works great! The timer starts on its own once you make your first move, and stops as soon as the cube is solved. There are a handful of different games you can play on the app, and you can compete with other cubers around the world in different skill levels. I was a little worried there may not be enough users to quickly get matched with other people, but that hasn’t been an issue at all. The app also tracks your stats, so you can see your personal best times, number of moves, wins/losses, and more. My 10yo son has learned to solve using the app, with a little extra help from mom, and now he’s solving just as quickly as me and begging for his own GoCube! Lol!The only complaints I have is that the positioning of the cube on the app can be finicky, which can be a pain in the butt, mostly just when your in the “Academy” section trying to learn. I also have to plug-in which color cubes are where from time to time, as it can get a little scrambled once in a while. Not a big deal though. I do wish the “Academy” went into further lessons once you’ve mastered the solve. Like how to solve with fewer moves and different finger tricks and what not. And I definitely wish GoCube had more cubes! I’d like to move on to the 4×4, 5×5, pyraminx, skewb, etc, and it would be so nice to learn with their app. Hopefully, those are to come!

My ten year old solved the bottom layer today!
My Daughter and I have gotten into cubing this year. She’s 13… so picking it up easily. Her brother though also wants in on the fun. He got his first cube, but was struggling with the learning process.It’s his personality. He is SUPER smart, but doesn’t like “new” things sometimes or “hard” things ever.He’s a lover not a fighter. An absolute snuggle bug.But I sat with him for like 30 minutes while we calibrated his new cube and started playing the game.And he solved the white face before he was ready for a break!He was nailing R,U,R’,U’ like a champ, and was so proud and excited that he was “getting it”.This was worth every penny, opening up fun in the learning process for my dude!HIGHLY RECOMMEND for any level of beginner. Can’t comment on advanced strategies yet. We’ve only had it one night. But it is already worth it to me.High quality, fun and engaging, technologically interesting. Lights, sounds, the app mimics real life positioning of the cube. Over all an awesome and educational purchase.

The cube is smoother in the hand than most as it has curved edges, the coloured tiles are behind a clear plastic layer. The movement of the cube is very smooth and between the two, it takes a bit of getting used to but it is very nice when you do. It is easy to cut corners when you are tring to complete algorithms quickly. I’m a month or so in and really like it.The charging stand is simple but nice, the cable goes through a little gap and is attached to the stand so that when you place the cube in it and push it back, it is held in place by the charger. I’ve only charged it a couple of times – but equally, I’m not using it all day, probably only 15 – 20 minutes per day.Overall, the cube is good, but it is the app that makes this such a great all round package and I’ve not explored all of it yet! There are 5 icons at the bottom of the screen once you have paired with your cube. Starting from left to right, the first is a cup, it represents a leader board of times for the different ways that the cube can be manipulated – many of the times are ridiculously quick, sub 4 seconds! I average just below a minute so I’m a complete amateur by comparison. The second is a boxing glove this represents a series of matches that can be played, some are solo and others connect you with another online player. The third is a cube, in this section you can time yourself solving the cube – the nice feature here is that it starts to time you when you start moving the cube and stops when the cube is solved. There is also a section called solver – this will guide you through the solution from whatever state the cube is in when you start. The fourth is a gaming controller, in this section there is a series of fun games that will support you in becoming a more adept cuber, I haven’t played around with this very much yet. The final icon is a graduation cap, this is the academy. It guides you through the steps to solving the cube and is a useful tool. It shows the notations for the basic algorithms to solve the cube in three layers. Using this method with some (quite a lot) of practice you should be able to get to a time below a couple of minutes. You can then sumplement this with guides on YouTube. I did find that you need to regularly reorient when going through the academy.I know that there are other smart cubes on the market, this is the only one that I have so I can’t compare them with others – if you have done any research on these you will already know that this one is more expensive than the original Rubik’s connect or from Gan.I really like this cube and I’ve picked things up from the app that have improved my times. If you are prepared to spend the money, the app really makes this a worthwhile package.
