It’s a tough job, but somebody’s got to do it. Guts, glory, danger, and sacrifice are all in a day’s work for Hank the Cowdog, Head of Ranch Security. While investigating a murder on the ranch, Hank finds himself the number-one suspect. He resigns and heads for the hills to become an outlaw. A band of ruthless coyotes are happy to teach Hank the trade. Will Hank be forced to raid his own ranch?
Hank sings “How Do I Do It?” and Rip and Snort sing “Me, Just a Worthless Coyote” in this hilarious adventure for the whole family.

Very funny
Hank the cowdog has an important job on the ranch, he is in charge of ranch security. This little book is written in the person of Hank, the cowdog. This is a funny book for adults and kids. My son-in-law enjoyed reading these books to his third grade class. He would put on his cowboy hat and boots and really put on a show and the kids enjoyed the adventures of Hank, the cowdog.

Very Good
This book will appeal to my student who needs high interest reading material on 3rd grade level, despite being in 5th grade. There are a few illustrations throughout the book. The words are spaced well on the pages, and will not be overwhelming, nor the print too small. Excited to show the student!

Fun series, full of humor
How have I missed this cute series until now? Everyone in the Texas Panhandle seems to know these books, and now I know why. The world that Hank lives in is the ranch life in the Texas Panhandle.Somehow Hank keeps the Western “voice” while staying true to being a dog. There’s a mystery to be solved and a ranch to be kept safe. There is a lot of humor amidst life lessons. I found this quotation to be one of those:You canât be safe and cautious all the time. If youâre too timid in this life, youâll miss out on all the fun and adventure. Youâll just stay home and snap at the flies, and when you get to be an old dog, youâll look back on your life and think, âAll these years Iâve been on this earth, and Iâve never done anything but snap at flies.â And you’ll regret that, when the opportunity came up, you didn’t sneak a ride into town.It is well worth the reading by adults who like young adult fiction. It can be shared with middle school aged children on up. I will slowly be adding the entire series of 70+ books.

Hank the cowdog teaches about real life.
I am a 9 year old girl who reads Hank the Cowdog. I read 6th grade books and I love the books. They teach you about real life. They are funny and adventurous. I am on book 19 right now. I understand the words they say like “Idiotic” or “stupid”, they are not said to hurt people. If Slim said “Idiotic Bull!” he means the bull is being Idiotic for attacking. I think Hank the Cowdog are really good books, and more people should read them.

Good kid books
I love hank the cowdog. My brother read these books growing up, so I got a few to teas to my boys!

If you understand rural life and the working world, you and your kids will probably love this book about Hank, the boastful, well-meaning, but often blundering “head of ranch security”. On the other hand, some modern urbanites may have a hard time recognizing the humour.

A lovely story for animal lovers of all ages.

We LOVE these books !! Itâs not often I can find a book that I think is appropriate to read to my grandson (8). These stories are funny and hold his interest when we read them. He will actually giggle out loud at some parts which is very unusual for him when we are reading bedtime stories. We have listened (multiple times) to the Hank podcasts and enjoy them as well but reading these stories out loud really bro fat hen to life amd uses the imagination. We just went to the official Hank website and bought a large set which I know we will enjoy.
