Exciting Adventure with a Unique Twist
“Danger in the Hills” is an exciting read for young readers, blending adventure, suspense, and the introduction of the unique NOLO character. My kids were captivated by the story of Heather, Colleen, Camille, and their friends as they navigate the dangers of the wilderness. The plot is fast-paced with unexpected twists, and the illustrations add a vibrant touch. The story encourages bravery and teamwork, making it a hit in our house. We’re definitely looking forward to the next book in the series. Highly recommend!

    A great family read!
I recently read this book with my 6yo and we both really enjoyed it. It is a really sweet story with beautiful descriptions of a new to us creature, the NOLO. The illustrations are so nice to look at. We can’t wait for the next one. ** Warning, this book may cause your child to stay up way after bedtime reading.

Drew me in from the beginning.
The lonely NOLO was over 39 tons! I had to read more. The NOLO was living his days, doing his regular routine. Meanwhile kids got lost and called for his help. From there, friendship grows, even to the point where they can communicate. NOLO waits near a hospital to make sure his friends are well.Positive, uplifitng, and fun, the story reads smoothly. The choice of font and the art are fantastic. Very enjoyable.

    Engaging and quick read
The illustrations are great and the NOLO character is fun and unique. The parts of the story where the kids think they will die in the woods was, for me, not quite age-appropriate for the story. But I think young readers will identify with Jake (NOLO) and how kind he is (and there’s a great lesson in there about not judging someone by their appearance…but measuring them by their character). Overall, it’s an engaging and quick read that kids will most likely enjoy.

The best thing about this book is the origin story of how it came about. The author’s father came up with the whole concept of the NOLO and used to tell fun stories about this curious creature to all his kids. The author is honouring his memory by passing on their versions of the stories to us.The story is really lovely and quirky! It starts off quite dark with a group of kids lost and injured in the woods but when the NOLO appears it takes on such a charming turn! All ends well and new friendships created. The level of detail is great – even down to the rhythm the NOLO’s three legs would make when stomping around, or that his fur grows too fast so he has to trim his eyebrows every day! The illustrations are amazing and there is a nice origin story of how the NOLO evolved from the time of the dinosaurs in the back. This whole book is just so professionally presented. A lovely book to read and have fun with your kids!

It sounds like fun until things start getting a bit mysterious. They end up on a mission to solve a mystery. It’s packed with action, making it a perfect read for kids who love a bit of adventure.Overall, I rate this books as a solid 5 out of 5 stars. It’s an engaging read that offers plenty of thrills, chills, and a whole lot of heart.
