An engaging, enlightening, and cleverly illustrated guide to product design, written by experienced professional designers and instructors.
Products are in every area of our lives, but just what product designers do and how they think is a mystery to most. Product design is not art, engineering, or craft, even as it calls for skills and understandings in each of these areas—along with psychology, history, cultural anthropology, physics, ergonomics, materials technology, marketing, and manufacturing. This accessible guide provides an entry point into this vast field through 101 brief, illustrated lessons exploring such areas as
• why all design is performed in relation to the body
• why every product is part of a system
• the difference between being clever and being gimmicky
• why notions of beauty are universal across cultures
• how to use both storytelling and argument to effectively persuade
Written by three experienced design instructors and professionals, 101 Things I Learned® in Product Design School provides concise, thoughtful touch points for beginning design students, experienced professionals, and anyone else wishing to better understand this complex field that shapes our lives every day.

Highly Recommend! A book youâll be able to continuously refer back to
For a light and easy read, there’s an incredible amount of depth and knowledge in these pages. The lessons, of course, dive deep into product design: how it integrates and influences our daily lives, connects us to the world, and really teaches us how to âseeâ. It’s translated into digestible, playfully sketched lessons for those who are interested/new in the design field and a great reference for professionals. I’ve really enjoyed reading through these lessons and know that I’ll be referring back to it for years to come.+ Easy read with fun illustrations+ Lots of insights and depth+ Would recommend for new designers and professionals+ Itâs a book youâll be able to continuously refer back to

Insightful, digestible, applicable, wise
Primary Design Component – this book has 101 design insights, stated clearly and directly.Sign Value – another design book on your shelf will indeed make you look cool, butâ¦Utility Value – I expect it to spend more time off my shelf as a go-to reference.âA need is a verbâ – You donât need another design book. You* need the knowledge this book provides. (*student, professional, Karim Rashid, general design enthusiast)

great overview of product design concepts.
It was a good quick read. Not a textbook by any means but rather a good overview of main design concepts.

Interesting but…
I can’t deduct a star because it isn’t as good as the engineering book. Maybe product design is just different or perhaps it’s just my ignorance. Good tidbits for product stuff, so it is a useful reference if your background is engineering, other tech areas

Hardcover made it difficult to carry
I preferred a soft cover book. Then it would be more like a classroom in a bookA list of references would have been nice
David Therriault –
Good book. Easy to read and understand the concept. Even if you donât work as a product designer, there are concept that can be applied to pretty much anything design related.

El libro es tal cual las imágenes solo que en las primeras páginas venÃa algo maltratado, y por alguna razón huele a perfume pero eso no afecta jajaja
