Excellent Update To This Great Book
The thing I love most about this book is the theory sections. Will is a wonderful teacher and knows how to break down complex topics into more digestible pieces – for example, the section on Virtual Analog Filters provides a discussion on resolving zero-delay feedback loops, a topic I have never seen so clearly described before. A topic that used to stump me is now easy to manage and is much easier to connect to.A couple of other highlights for me were the discussions on wavetable and karplus strong synthesis.Thanks for the great book Will!

Dive into audio synthesizers
Straight forward concepts of putting together synthesizer sounds for music and audio, either from scratch or modifying ready made plug-ins. I’m having way too much fun for me to call this work. A good addition to anyone’s library on this subject. A must have for your electronic music library of books.

I still don’t know what function to implement in my .dll to make the DAW open it after compilation. Not specified in book, even Steinberg does not clarify it in plugin SDK. Seem like VST were written by computer, with no use of human beings any more. No such a knowledge anywhere. Good that the book systematizes general knowledge about VST synth’s, however it is difficult to find anything that it wouldn’t be generally known in the book.

I am a fan of Will Pirkle’s work. I own the first edition of this book (which was very different) and his 2nd edition FX book which is an essential companion book if you want to dig more into the DSP theory.And this leads to the problem which I assume is either Amazon or the publishers. The equation blocks in the ebook are not rendered correctly. This is not too much of a concern for me because his other books cover the same ground in more detail however it would certainly detract from the otherwise excellent content for somebody using only this book. It is possible to work out what the equations are but it isn’t a good reading experience. I hope that the publishers/Amazon will fix this problem at some point.
