Just a short while ago, my dream was distant, like a fading star. I had a passion, a desire to sing and play, but I hit wall after wall. Every time I tried to learn, I felt more and more disconnected from the world of music. But destiny had another plan.

I unlocked the treasures of music on various instruments and vocal techniques, amassing knowledge from diverse sectors: digital apps, books, online courses, and hands-on instruction with music teachers…including two college degrees.
Unlike most, my journey wasn’t just about signing up for expensive courses or spending hours aimlessly on apps. It was about crafting a blend of apps, books, courses, and sometimes teachers so powerful that failing felt unthinkable.

Practical Music Mastery
This book offers a good guide for both novices and seasoned musicians. The book’s unique blend of practical advice and motivational strategies is evident in its structured approach. For instance, the part on how to play and sing songs suggests starting with a recognizable segment of a song to boost confidence and enjoymentâan accessible way to engage with music. The author’s emphasis on niche selection and value-based learning, alongside the practical use of resources like apps and courses, enriches the reader’s learning experience. Overall, this book is a valuable resource, providing actionable advice that encourages both growth and enjoyment in music.

So informative!
The 14 Unshakable Laws of Learning Music provides so much valuable information that is hard to find in one search on google. It takes all the hurdles that new and old musicians face and provides insights on how to overcome them. I would recommend this to anyone interested in learning how to become a musician or anyone interested in drawing out the talents they have that are buried deep within themselves.

Half philosophy of learning for beginners, and half actual pro-tips.
I’m overall impressed by the book as a beginner’s guide to the philosophy of learning, using music as an example. While I did find a lot of good ‘meaty chunks’ of music theory and pro tips, they came after a sprawling introduction to the author’s advanced techniques for breaking down a complex subject (learning to approach the mastery of music as a musician) that requires practice and discipline. I, however, was looking for more like a “Strunk & White’s” condensed guide to music practice and application which is where the title seemed to lead me.That said, I can see how this book would be a great starting point for the young creative, and I would speculate even the young creative with challenges on the Spectrum of Learning Challenges. For the more seasoned self-taught hobbyist or professional, there are probably more focused books out there.

Very interesting…
This book is interesting. It doesnât teach you how to play music but instead offers a mindset that will guide you over the hurdles that can stop you from learning to sing or play an instrument. I’m looking forward to giving it a try!

Good swift kick in the behind
If you’re someone looking for shortcuts… well, you won’t find it here. This book basically tells you that you need to spend time, energy, and a bit of money to get better, and there’s no two ways about it. It’s maybe a good book for beginners, but wasn’t what I was expecting as honestly these laws aren’t specific to music, they’re applicable for every craft. I was looking for something more specific, so it’s not the book for me. If you’re new to music or the creating/learning journey, well it’s not a bad book to get your started and grounded.

A Fantastic Book for Musicians
I am not a new musician- I have been playing for 60 years, but I found many, many insights, gems, and ideas for my own practice. One thing a musician must never forget is the basics. This book is remarkable at helping new students at finding the mastery mindset and old-timers to be reminded of the simple things on which we build music. This book will not go out-of-date if you are willing to keep learning and growing. Congratulations, Dan Spencer on quite a book. Thank you!

I am a “self-taught” music lover who couldn’t get past a certain point to achive my Dream Goal due to several of the reasons Dan expresses so clearly in his book. I know I need a teacher. I know I should practice more. Priorities have changed and now I don’t have the necessary urge to pursue this, really, Dream Goal. But it might never be too late! In terms of contents, the format is that of Self-help books that the American public is familiar with.I personally think it goes around too much and it has too many flashy devices that add little to the purpose. I may also be older (65) than the expected audience that may need more companionship while organizing a methodology to achieve purposes.

I personally have always struggled with learning a new skill and keeping to it, even though I really want to learn to play an instrument. Upon starting to read this book, it already sparked the desire again to pick up an instrument and actually stick to learning it. This book is a great guide to know what struggles you are or maybe will be facing in the learning process, what to do about it, and to motivate you to actually reach your goals. I know this will really help me on my journey and is to me 100% worth it.I already have kept my passion for music theory and such from Dan’s reactions and breakdowns of video game soundtracks on YouTube, but this book has now motivated me to actually pick up an instrument and learn to play music myself.
